The 4th & 1 play was actually a good call...

Heyward was wide open when he cut back in during his route which was right before Pickett fled the pocket. The ball should have been in the air before Heyward made his cut and it would have been a simple first down.

Pickett is really bad at timing/anticipation, and it's a problem.

I thought you were talking about the endzone play initially. I'm not so sure about the call youre talking about....I have a bigger issue with the hindsight bias that popped up when Pickett missed Heyward in the end zone. Same exact issue with Pickett during that play and the outcome was way more obvious then even the play you're talking about because everybody except Pickett saw it until it was too late. I thought it was foolish for people to jump on the tear down Tomlin bandwagon because Kenny is playing pretty incompetent. I believe Kenny had connected on that play we would be talking about a much different outcome.

You can't even blame Canada for the outcome of that play. As far as I'm concerned Pickett and Canada make each other look equally bad. It's Pickett one play and Canada the next. Then they make Tomlin look bad, and then Tomlin makes himself look bad by being loyal to a fault. I still don't see the big deal about switching coordinators in-season . It cant be that much different from switching head coaches. Call Mark Whipple...see if he wants to be OC/QB coach and go from there. Hand Kenny the playbook while he's out of the lineup so he can get a headstart on learning plays.

It was an absolute horrible decision by Tomlin on going for it instead of kicking a 50 yard FG to bring the game within 1 score while still in the 3rd quarter. The disaster though is all on Canada on a 4th and 1 shotgun snap with a rookie LG and rolling that way. This team is hot garbage from top to bottom and many coaches should be shown the door immediately. Matt Canada shouldn’t even be coaching a middle school team with how bad his playcalling is.

90% of QBs hit Heyward across the middle. That was easy money.

The decision was bad. One score game if the FG is made. Kickoff and then we can stop them. We had less than a yard to go and we ran a shotgun play. The Texans were playing the pass hard defensively as if they knew what was coming (seems to be happening a lot).

When they lined up in shotgun I told my son they’ve got to be kidding me right now. Then the announcers started ripping on what they were going to run. For the cherry on top it gets our QB injured. I mean does Matt Canada have a football for dummies book that he is getting the plays from?

A lot of people have a problem with the shotgun in that spot. I'm with you and don't mind it. How many people here would be screaming about how terrible a call it was had they lined up, given it to Harris and got stuffed?

On that play, what we don't know is how it was designed. I replayed it a few times when it was live and it looked like the ball was supposed to come out quick and Pickett held the ball instead of passing. Trying to tell the difference between who is the problem and who is to blame on any given play, Canada or Pickett is really difficult. IMO, they're both terrible.

The only thing that made that a roll out was KFP. You need to watch again, and He had not one player open ,but two

Well You can dang well tell its not a freaking role out......I have not even seen a naked bootleg that has a Qb start to step up...then turn around, and run the other way. LoL.

Listening to Peyton on Giants game, saying lets see some crossing routes, some movement, some picks, etc. Sounds like he's watching our routes.

I just watched the replay of that 4th and one a good number of times and in my opinion, Heyward is NFL open at the top of Picketts drop back but becomes more open after a beat but Pickett bailed the pocket. The other receivers didn't come open until after he already bailed. The announcer even pointed out the reciever coming open but Kenny was long gone. That has been the common theme with him this year and I just don't know how you fix it. Or if it's even fixable.

Hell, now I went back and watched it again and Austin was breaking open before the pocket collapsed. Yikes.

Only Kenny can fix it. It’s his internal clock and happy feet. Maybe during practice they can use a cattle prod every time he bails early

First Pic: Why is he already turning his back and seeing none of the field? There isn’t even a defender remotely close.

Second Pic: Instead of trying to run outside the edge, why not cut to the right. Defender against Jones would have over past him and we have the other defenders double teamed to the right, no one would have touched him.

I did not like the call, I would have kicked the FG, but if I was to go for it, it would have been a QB sneak. KFP had only been stopped one time against SF and it wasn’t a true QB sneak.

The difference is, if the OC is trash and players rarely get open and there is horrible play design...it creates doubt in every player and, most importantly, the quarterback because they don't trust the play.

I believe the OC is the biggest problem with this team by a mile.

Going for it instead of pulling within seven with the field goal was stupid. Putting Pickett in the shotgun was pure incompetence by Canada. Harris had ripped off a big run earlier in the drive and was the biggest reason the offense got going. Pickett is struggling and the offensive line has been lousy in pass protection. Put Pickett under center with Harris behind him. Make the defense respect the threat of the sneak and the threat of a run to Harris. Even if you are going to pass, it puts more pressure on the defense. Instead, they made it too easy on them. Yes, Pickett could have made it work, anyway, but that doesn't make it any less of a terrible decision.

If I go to Vegas and put my life savings on red and red hits, was it a good decision on my part? 4 and 1 with how the team has been playing, a passing play in shotgun is a bad call. I don't care that Heyward came open. The decision making was bad and it was bound to fail more times than not.

We have an Oline that can't pass protect and a QB who is struggling to see the field. The coaches need to understand the strengths and weaknesses of their players and sometimes those strengths and weaknesses change from game to game. Right now, Pickett can't make quick decisions.

I agree I hate the call, but to say nobody was open, and to say KFP didn't bail is not correct. This is not to You Blast....I'm just using Your post.....I find it funny.....in one sentence a person will say our OC doesn't give any easy throws, and in the next sentence....He should know the Qb is scared, doesn't trust His OL, and can't see the field. LoL. LoL. LoL. LoL :lolol::roflmao::lolol::roflmao:.
