Who would you want as OC if the Steelers pulled the rip on Canada?

For the last several years he wasn’t actually coaching he was doing public relations work

Mitchell started as the team's defensive line coach, then served as assistant head coach/defensive line coach and promoted to assistant head coach in 2018. During that time he earned two Super Bowl rings in four appearances.

It would be great if we hired an OC that has more NFL experience then College.

LOL... STD. I thought you would be huge KFP fan boy knowing Mitch was the next man up.

You were one of the few people here that wanted Kenny to start from week 1 last year just to insure Mitch didn't get on the field. :)

DK hinted on Ramon's show yesterday that something really terrible was going to come out that would explain why this guy had to immediately leave the building.

definitely not 100% pickets’s fault. However, a large portion of the blame falls on him as it should. As for the running game part of your post. Kenny starts hitting some of the plays and suddenly defenses have to respect the passing game and stop stacking the box.

I want my money's worth. 1. Jet sweep R, 2. Jet sweep L, 3 and 4 Bubble screen L and G, 5 and 6 Slot over T and G, 7 and 8 TE over T and G, 9 and 10 RB middle and outside (pick the hole that is open). That about covers it, anything more would be bonus!

Hell I'd take someone proven successful from college at an elite level, but we settle for hometown discount.

That's the question we all are asking. Of course we saw very little in preseason, (yes lessor competition) but from nearly every analyst it showed progress in reading his progressions, looking off coverage and planting the ball where he should. What we see is not what we saw, timing is horrible, throws way off, staring at R and not looking off, then throwing right into coverage. Canada sucks, his plays and play calling sucks, but right now his QB sucks as well. Hard to not blame everyone from top to bottom.

They don't have to scrap the playbook, change the terminology, install new blocking schemes or any of the myriad of changes people assume need to happen when you fire a coordinator or demote him for someone new. What they need to do is prepare to face the weekly opponent and then be smart enough to adjust the plan on the fly. That has been the problem since Cowher.

So Monday night Schwartz designs a game plan to completely shutdown the run and pressure Pickett. They bring everyone down close to the LOS for run support and to muddy the routes receivers have to run. Guys on go routes have to fight through a jam and get clear before Pickett gets sacked. Guys on drag routes, crossing routes, slants and post routes have to fight through the safeties and linebackers. How did the Steelers combat this scheme? They didn't.

If they are only rushing 4 and going basically single safety high behind all those bodies then spread them out with multiple receiver sets and force them to defend the whole field. Do a bunch formation left with Washington, Muth, and Pickens then isolate Austin on the right and have Harris side car. The LB's then have to shade to bunch side as well as that single high safety because you don't want Pickens getting behind his CB with no over the top help. It puts the Outside backer in the position of having to sprint across the field to cover wheel routes and the back in the flat. Austin is the key, if his defender is up in press man then he runs a go route and you throw it deep. If the corner plays 4 or 5 yards off it's a quick slant and you hit him in stride. If Ward has good coverage then 2nd read is Harris, Austin drives Ward deeper up field Harris takes the dumpoff and huals it for the sideline forcing the LB to chase him. Basically attack what you are seeing and force them out of it.

The dumb thing is that they won't do that because Tomlin's belief is that as long as the players execute they can't be beat and they don't need to change anything.

I would be interested to see Byron Leftwich. As other have stated, he did have Brady. However, he also worked under Bruce Arians. I would be excited to see Todd Haley be brought back in. He seems to be one Pickett could really learn under. He doesn't have the ego yet that Ben had (I mean that with no disrespect to Ben, after two Super Bowls he earned the right to have some ego/confidence). I think that is where others have mentioned Haley may have had some ego, which was only a problem when the OC and QB butt heads.

I still am, and I still do. I support KFP, and I very much dislike Canada. It doesn't mean I don't see the open Guys, and see KFP missing people. I know what Trubisky is. I don't yet know what KFP is.

It's like Tomlin actively looks for OCs with minimal success that bounce around 7 to 8 schools over 10-12 years.

    Even the guys behind Canada

Why would a good OC want to come here as long as our OL stinks?

    Nowhere to go but up.

Tomlin has been here 17 seasons. Succession is on the horizon.

If they made a move they'd probably just promote Sullivan. He can do for the offense what he's done for Pickett.

Unless the Steelers move the team to Colorado you can forget about Munchak.

I assume you mean for the 2024 season. If Canada is fired during the 2023 season it will be Mike Sullivan. He is on the current staff and has been an offensive coordinator before in the NFL. He would be named interim coordinator and they would hire in the offseason.

How is Daboll helping in NY. A coach can only do so much...., and yes Canada sucks, but again a coach can only do so much. Everyone looks at what Shanahan has done with Purdy, and says see(I'm telling You if the league wasn't so big on how fast a Qb can run, or how far He can throw He would have been drafted higher), but nobody is saying how they couldn't get Trey Lance to play well. I mean if it was just coaching why didn't their 1st round pick Trey Lance work???
