This was just f^cking rough. I needed a nap to sober up some. I knew it was going to take time for things like the back 6 to gel, but I wasn't expecting the OLine and front 5 to look this awful. Complete team loss here from the coaching staff to Kenny to the other 52. Complete lackluster performance across the board. Good news is they get to put this behind them and prepare for Cleveland. I don't think we should just dwell upon one awful game. Don't think we need to panic over one awful game. Tip our caps to the 49ers and move on.

4-5, if not more, actual games. I told the board that there's not enough time in the off-season to gel. This is exactly why I predicted 9-8 for this team and stuck with that prediction.

That remains to be seen but after what I witness today it is not going happen quickly. There are way too many issues on both sides of the ball that can't be fixed in one week.

The Cleveland front 7 on defense is pretty good so I expect more of the same next week from the Steelers offense.

start Rudolph, he then gets into an altercation with Garrett again (the rematch) and gets him tossed. Worth a shot lol

Last year was a rebuilding year and the Steelers are still in that rebuild. Contrary to the preseason numbers, Pickett has not arrived yet from a statistical perspective. The Steelers desire is to run the ball and utilize Pickett's skillset with play action, but they could not run the ball today. The 49ers d-line controlled the line of scrimmage, damn, I wish they had extended Hargrave instead of Tuitt. The 49ers linebackers are more athletic than the Steelers skill position players.

I was hoping the Steelers were being coached better this season from what pre-season showed, but this game causes those doubts to resurface.

Only bright note for me us that Steeler Nation will be praying a lot this season.

I watched some highlights. I only heard the game on the radio ... I heard Aiyuk's name called way too much BTW ...

Looks like Hargraves was collapsing the interior of that line. Pressure up the middle was insane.

Alternatively, our front 3 on defense got no push. They looked like a bunch of jobbers.

Actually, I don't if I can't totally fault Kenny in this game, any QB is gonna struggle if they continuously get moved off the ball.

Lets not forget we were manhandled on both sides of the trenches. They were blowing up our offense and defensive lines. Their middle linebackers looked like the best in the league.

They spent a fortune on Heyward and Ogunjobi, who are both going to miss time and/or be limited. The recent picks of Leal and Loudermilk haven't worked at all. Let's hope Benton is good but, even if he is, there are huge problems up front. Oh, and the secondary kinda sucks. And so does Matt Canada. The rebuild is not complete.

Then we'll have this "gelling" issue every year? It seems we have new OL in the mix each year. JMO>

The crew on "Get Up" this morning really ripped Matt Canada. Going as far as saying that every team that the Steelers play this year will have a better play caller than Canada.

The OC is not the problem. It's the disheveled O-line that prevents the offense from executing properly... and ILBs that can't cover or tackle for crap. Same problems, new season.

Particularly with the limited action our starters get. One of those series we scored on one or two plays if I recall so just not enough work then couple that with the **** limitation on full pad practices and you get ****ty starts (not just game 1, before everyone tells me Tomlin 10-6-1) but the first say 4-5 games. Only 5 AFC teams won yesterday, pathetic with the usual first game hammy's and other injuries because guys are not in battle shape like they used to be coming out of full blown real camps and real preseasons.

The OC is part of the problem. His scheme does nothing to help receivers get open. Pickett had nowhere to go with the ball far too often yesterday. That's on Canada as much as it is on the receivers.

I haven't seen much talk about the inside linebackers, but yeah, they were bad. That was very disappointing given their career resumes and how they had played in preseason.

No, he just implemented a game plan that left Pickett with nowhere to throw about half of the time yesterday. It is possible that Canada's scheme was bad and Pickett played poorly yesterday. It doesn't have to be one or the other. In fact, it was both.

As long as Canada is OC, the Steelers will be home for the playoffs. Our offense has been a train wreck for the past three seasons and our management was stupid to not fire hi. Two years ago. Scoring 17 points for us is a huge hurdle with this idiot in charge. Tomlin can’t think he is good can he. Crapshow yesterday. Long season ahead for us

Loudermilk actually played fairly well and got some good penetration

The whole flow changed if he completed some of those passes. The game plan isn't put in to fall behind that far. We can go back and forth on this all day, but it's the NFL and wrs normally don't have huge voids around them.

Go back and watch the first quarter again. The missed passes to open receivers happened after they were down. The problem on the first two or three possessions was that there was nowhere to throw the ball when he had time. That is part of what led to the first interception. Nobody was open on that play.

Don't get me wrong. He was terrible, but there was no flow even before he started misfiring.

Some of the play calls are not correct as I was watching the highlights on the 4th. and 5 late in the game should have been quick routes instead of having the RB do blitz pick up ... Another failed 4th. down the play design had no threat in the flats allowing the Defense to sink into the middle and clog up the windows...

Also when the design was better and guys came open underneath KP would just look at them and hold the ball looking for a bigger play .. KP was off so bad on his throws it would make no difference who the OC was..
