I know he was a long shot, but I did want to see if he had that steeler FB mojo we have seen in the past, a guy who just loves to block for the lead back. Sadly those days are gone.

We should get Derrick Watt back he is a true game changer. Whenever he lined up at FB good things would happen.

Unfortunately for the Steelers in 3 years he lined up at FB a total of 7 times.

2021 he did have 1 carry for 1 yard. Can’t get more consistent than that.

So, they aren't going to participate in free agency in 2024 ?

In fairness he was a bigger part last year and successful in his role. I would not be surprised if they brought him in should one of the special teamers they brought in not work out (and he agreed to reduced cap hit.)

For the season, Watt is 5 for 5 in picking up first downs on third-and-1 carries.

His career rushing statistics are bad enough that you don't have to pull such misleading nonsense. They actually did find ways to use him a little more often last season. That said, no one ever suggested he was a game-changer. He is a useful special teamer who can block and make the occasional short-yardage play. It is funny how you and so many others here confuse overpaid with bad.

It doesn't mean the player isn't useful. Derek Watt was useful. He just wasn't worth his contract.

Derek Watt is about as useful as you on this board. Actually I would take you begrudgingly.

I think he was one of their leading tacklers on special teams, the majority of teams don't use a FB much, they overpaid for him but so what.

I like D Watt. However, no one will invest much into a player whose job is to block for the RB if that position is being devalued

Thanks, I think, but we will have to agree to disagree. The guy is a good special teamer who was a useful part of the short-yardage offense last season.
