I don't see anything wrong with what DJ said about Andy Reid. Steelers caught only 12 passing TDs, 8 by the WRs. Kelce matched the Steelers total by catching 12 TDs last season. Canada's dink and dunk passes to the sidelines didn't give the WRs much of a chance to break one. Kelce totaled 1338 yards, half of which were from yards after catch, 657 yards. Hopefully the offense uses the whole field this coming season.

So is that on him or the play calling

EDIT: and my count was wrong, only 5 by the WRs. And some on the forum wanted Pickens benched for the season when he complained Canada's offense wasn't
    getting him more involved.

    Touchdowns
    George Pickens WR 4
    Chase Claypool WR 1

    Pat Freiermuth TE 2
    Connor Heyward TE 1

    Najee Harris RB 3
    Derek Watt FB 1

I'm not sticking up for Canada (anyone on here can tell You I wanted Him gone before He even started), but He is not throwing the passes, or running the routes. We do have deep routes on plays, and routes to the middle of the field. Like I tell Ravens fans....No Oc can force the Qb to throw, or see certain routes. Again I'm not sticking up for Canada....I didn't even want Him hired.

I agree, it can be on Pickett. Though I question why Pickett waited until about the final drives of games to throw lights out all over field (that throw to Heyward and catch by him was one of the great plays last season).

It was the same thing in 2021 when it was Ben who was called the play in the fourth quarter....Almost 50% of the points by the steelers were in the fourth quarter in 2021

    Him

As you pointed out 6 others scored touchdowns with the same play calling

No where in the play calling does it say run backwards

I don't know your point on DJ. Steelers did not not have much of a long ball game nor were the receivers getting much yards after the game. The passing game appeared to support long drives and the receivers appeared to be tackled quickly when they caught the ball. If I go with just the WRs and TEs, most tower over DDJ who is 5-10, I throw to the tall guy if I'm close to end zone.

    George Pickens WR 4, 6-3
    Chase Claypool WR 1, 6-4
    Pat Freiermuth TE 2, 6-5
Connor Heyward TE 1, 6-0 and Connor was wide open on blown coverage for his TD if I remember right.

I'm hoping with the new Offensive Assistant, they design plays with lots of movement, designs for yards after the catch and occasional deep balls.

Conner was probably the last concern of the defense.
It could appear as a blown coverage or a db thought he could jump a play to someone else.

This new Offense assistant has been discussed in his own thread.
to me, he is a complete unknown, just like all draft picks from this year.

He's like a government worker or a tenured teacher that sucks, you can't get rid of them, did you say Tomlin or Canada, oops. Damn I pulled that pin in July already. Just kidding. He better improve or it will be a long long season. If the first series goes run run, 3rd and long I'm gonna cry!!

Agreed somebody on the staff should put together a montage of his negative yards after catch running backwards plays and say STFU and do your job!!

If this is true, we are in for a very boring, mediocre season. Can't wait.

It’s very convenient how some ignore the details and place blame solely on a coach.

At the end of games in 2-minute situations or in hurry up, the play calls don't come in from the sideline. Most is on the quarterback calling the plays, protections, etc... That's why Ben did so much better in hurry up and 2-minute drills. He had complete control of the offense and play calling. I think that helped Kenny Pickett as well.

That's just the way it generally works and makes the point the offense operates best when Canada has nothing to do with the implementation of it.

That's just a point that I think needs to be made.

I agree with you that DJ needs to get his head out of his rear end and eliminate some of his mistakes that he makes over and over again. He's a talented dude, but he does get in his own way sometimes. When he runs backwards and gives up yards instead of getting up the field drives me absolutely crazy.

I think that there is probably some blame on Pickett, some on DJ, and some blame on the design of the offense. I hope that they all improve this season and things really start happening.
