why keep them in flux by adding guys every year? then they have to get used to playing with the others and we have to find out if they can play or be as good as who we just let walk every year. bad business i believe. you have a proven commodity here already that knows the other players. it also doesn't help our already new players mesh. next year may be petersons last year as well.

Because young players get better and veteran players get worse. You don't want to be paying a veteran backup starter money.

3 Year extension for 10 million done, 3 years for 20 million, not so much.

Yes - No? Are you proving my point; as to why you don't extend players in their late 20s that still have 1 year reaming on their contract.

Again, it depends. If someone is offering a 2nd round pick for him...trade him.

Wallace is the 3rd outside corner this year. 100% Porter is starting this year.

That simply isn't true. It isn't 100 percent. He is a rookie. Even if he does become a quality starter, it might take him time to get there.

proving it? i'm proving the vet guys are playing well for us and the young one's have not. sutton did, but that was finally in his last year here. prior to that he played sparingly. gay until he left here and came back as he got vet experience then started playing well. townsend took several years before he was put into a starting role. haden was still playing pretty well when we got rid of him finally. new is fine to add but you don't just rely on them to be your go to players without vets to teach them and carry the burden until they are ready. if they ever get ready. it's not all about one year. you have to plan for future situations. if peterson stays for this year and next, that would allow levi to take his place down the road plus give you good play throughout that time. a two year extension now will be cheaper than waiting a year or two. salaries don't drop usually. he was second on this team in interceptions playing a lot less snaps. he has worth to this team and will for the next couple of years. this past draft had a freakish amount of good corners in it. that doesn't happen too often. we got lucky.

Can't compare the NFL in 2023 to the NFL in 2003. Apples and oranges.

Porter is more talented than Sutton, it's not even close.

I'll concede he may not start day 1, but by game 4 he will be the starter.

How is so much more talented than Sutton that it isn't even close? Sutton is quite talented, and he has proven he can be an NFL starter. Porter hasn't done that yet. Don't get me wrong. I like the pick. I think Porter was a great value at 32, but let's not oversell it here.

There is always uncertainty with rookies.

i agree fully with what you said scribe. until we see it on the field and producing results, we don't know. just because he may be starting doesn't guarantee the results we want. that's if he does start. these vets have a proven track record. wallace has only been in the league for 5 years prior to this one. he is playing better ball now then in prior years. i don't think he has hit the age wall of regression yet.
