Kind of glad our veteran wide receivers aren't making headlines in the offseason. Not usually a good thing.

I agree with steelersrock. That is a good thing. Any news about Johnson at this point would likely be bad news. Austin is far more interesting because we haven't seen what he can do in an NFL game, not even in preseason.

Besides his blinding speed what makes Austin so difficult to cover is how quickly he changes direction. He just needs to stay healthy.

I hope he pans out. We have not had luck with the little quick twitch WR’s they never seem to stay healthy. He could be a real weapon for us.

Any reason why he should be mentioned??..... OTA's, while helpful for team chemistry, are still basically for the newcomers on the team to get acclimated

Do you think his injury slowed his straight speed and quick cuts? I dont know if they do measurables in camp but I was curious if he is fully healed and regained 100% to where he was.

Everything that I've read and the few clips that I have seen him running in looks like he is back 100%. I just hope the day before their first pre-season game the Steelers don't announce that he has tweaked something and won't play in the game. I would fear a repeat of last year in that case. He could be a really great weapon or he could be Senquez Golson 2.0

It was one injury, so I don't see that as reason to start breaking out the Golson comparisons. That said, foot problems can be notoriously tricky.

Last I looked he hasn't played 1 NFL game yet. Before we annoit him
The next Billie White shoes Johnson. I want to see if he can take on NFl style play.
I am hoping he can, I'm betting his targets will be limited, he better make the most of them.

How come nothing good can be said about anybody on this site without people rushing in to stomp out the positive talk? It's nauseating.

Even with limited targets, if his route running is good his decoy factor will give DC's fits. You cannot double team everyone, and of course the threat has to be real and established, but it should be fun to watch.

Should CA III stay healthy, he is going to assist Pittsburgh in a big way.

I found this funny in the article...

"I ain’t ever seen Austin before," Peterson said. "All I know is he’s a little guy and he’s outside. If he’s a little guy outside, he must got wheels. But I’ve never seen him in action. He made a little move, he may have gotten an arm length ahead of me. But I ended up giving him one of my tug and pulls to get me back in position to make the play."

During the film review after practice, Peterson got a second look at the play.

"Coach Grady Brown comes back in film, ‘We all owe Pat P an apology. We didn’t tell him 19 had wheels like this,'" Peterson said.

"I said, ‘You dang on right, ya’ll owe me an apology,'" he continued. "I’m in Year 13, got a million miles on the tires and y’all ain’t even tell me this man runs a 4.2."

I don't think He was doing that. We just haven't seen the guy play one down yet. I believe He's just saying to be cautiously optimistic.

He didn’t stomp on it he had a valid point

It’s football in shorts and we are talking about someone who never played one snap

    It’s just keeping perspective

Agreed, though moving well at OTA's is an important step for Austin after losing all of last season to that foot injury. It is just one step along the way. Maybe he is back where he was a year ago, but he has to move forward and prove himself in training camp and the preseason games before the team can even begin to count on him to make an impact this season.

@Wardismvp@Wardismvp is kinda of negative in some of the reply to posts. I dont think he meant it on this one tho.
He is correct to not be over positive, but at the same time as fans we can be excited for expectations.

your pretty notorious for doing this very thing. No one is saying the kid is going to be a great receiver. Some are just excited that he is at least looking like a good player. we all get that it's football in shorts. All of us. Just let people be excited about seeing a kid do well.

I am excited for the kid as well. It's nice to see him out there being able to compete. Oh wait. It's football in shorts!! Damn! My bad!
