Glenn Thomas. Not exactly what I was expecting, but hopefully he can be an asset to our offense and to the young and talented players who are developing. I don’t know much about him. Anybody here familiar with him and have any thoughts?

Me either, mac. I guess in one sense it’s good that the Steelers are getting Canada some help, but it’s almost like they’re bringing in another Canada to help Canada…if that makes sense. Sounds like he’s had some success coaching quarterbacks and offenses at the college level. We’ll see what happens I guess, but overall the move is a :sleepy:.

Well, he isn’t a position coach and way too much experience to be a “Quality” coach so I’m thinking he’s our Passing game Coordinator/Run game Coordinator but without those fancy lengthy titles!!!!

Also remember this is Canada's final contract year so he’ll be replaced at seasons end IF our Offense isn’t SB Quality or if Kenny isn’t progressing as they hope.

Maybe this is the Steelers positioning themselves with an “In-house “ promotion to OC next year.

Hopefully what he brings is all positive for our Offense.

This is what I am going to label “a Steelers special”.

Just like free agency - they are shopping in the bargain bin.

It doesn’t cost against the cap - the billionaire ownership - yes the Rooney’s - should be paying top dollar to bolster and support Tomlin and his staff. When we had top flight coaches in a particular unit, that unit was usually rock solid! When not having Titan coaches in a particular unit it has always shown up on the field in a much lesser way.

This is where I am solely pointing my big fat finger at our beloved ownership. They have often been accused of “being cheap” and it’s usually spoken incorrectly about with players and that doesn’t make sense when looking at our salary cap in the last 20+ years. They have made some blunders with shuffling payroll starting with Woodson all the way up to Mike Hilton but that’s poor assessment rather than cheap.

But coaches —— throw the bag at the best and they’d make it back in post season ticket and merch sales building an even MORE rabid fan base.

But what do I know, I’m not a business man, I’m a regular Joe worker bee. But I believe in the saying that you gotta spend money to make money.

I’m not a fan of this plan. See my other post above for the reasons.

I never heard of him until now. I'll have to watch some ASU games to get an idea of what to expect.

    Edit:
I can't criticize him too much based upon last season due to it being in flux with Herm being fired mid-season. Who knows how he'd fair after a few recruiting classes. With that said, his tenure at UNLV doesn't seem promising. It appears his claim to fame is his few seasons with Matt Ryan in Atlanta. I still need to watch some videos of his offense.

I think what I like is that he's been down at the college level and working with the younger guys and getting some nice experience.
I remember his time with the Falcons but barely.
While I don't view the hiring as all that, I do think it's a potentially good one.

A reasoned response, thank you. For months many have been shouting to get help, what they are saying is get top quality guys who are already in elevated positions, or dinosaurs who the game passed by long ago. Have no idea what he brings or what his role will be, but his experience does show he can work with young guys, which is what this O needs right now. Anything other than that is just conjecture.

So throw a bunch of money at a top ranked guy who doesn't mesh with his fellow coaches or fit the system then fire him and move on to the next. I don't know that seems awfully familiar..... where have I heard that before......oh yeah the Browns and the Jets and the Texans and on and on.

Btw the way as long as we are suggesting ways to waste money can I suggest the get Thorn058 a Hawaiian vacation fund. Every dollar donated helps save a life by me not killing them.

What coaches on those teams are you referring to that didn’t mesh?

Genuine question - I only follow other teams at a barely moderate level to know who you are speaking of.

Just messing with you, my friend.

So…who the heck is this guy, Glenn Thomas? I’m just glad the Steelers seem to realize that Canada needs help and don’t want to leave Mr. Saturday to his own devices. He seemed to work well with Matt Ryan during his more productive seasons.

    Yeah, he's not.
The family net is only $1.2billion.
Dan and Art Rooney II are what's left with the Steelers as Tim and Pat bolted.
Tim is doing well though I don't know about Pat.
Tim runs some sort of casino?

The Steelers were valued at ~$1.5 billion some time back but don't hold me to it.. I just vaguely recall that.

With the recent sale of Denver and soon Washington I am sure the value will skyrocket, but that still does not mean expendable cash in hand. Listening today and the speaker questioned if Cincy could sigh Burrow long term if he held to market value, and guaranteed money. I am not exact on the verbage, but certain portions of the guranateed amounts in contracts have to be put in escrow. Not every owner has that 'cash in hand' to put aside. Even Haslin was/is having issues because Pilot sales and stock were having problems. Not sure the depth of that, but Value on something has very little to do with operating income.

The ownership combined must be. Or crazy close to it. How can he or his family not be after owning a historic professional franchise sports franchise nearly 100 years old? Not to mention the other businesses. Regardless, they have the bread.
