I would pass on Skoronski unless we was really looking to get rid of Mason Cole. IOL is a strength, no need to add to it now.

If we take JSN, then I think we just trade back into the first for a corner.

I believe as others think Skoronski is going to be a guard in the NFL. We have our guards. Need a 10 year lockdown franchise Left Tackle which should be the 1st pick.

Then a corner, then a defensive tackle. Then an OLBer.

Exactly. We also have a player as well in Highsmith who has improved faster then the guy he took over for to the point of a solid payday.

Don't get me wrong if either Watt or Highsmith were not on the roster Anderson would be a no brainer.

heads would explode if they drafted something like this:

    1. skoronski or paris johnson or jones
    2. washington
    2a. dawand jones or mauch
    3. schmitz or avila or wypler
    4. best corner left or ILB or WR or safety.

this is barring any trades for DJ, cole, okrafor. to add to the mix in round 3-5.

replacing both sides of the line with what they already have done on the interior.

total commit to the offense and run game. i know everybody is thinking defense defense defense. maybe they throw a clinker into the draft and do the total opposite. :hehehe::cool:

I don’t think they’d go that far, especially because we need a capable strong safety (Neal is a short term band aid) and our #1 corner is 33 and our #2 corner is a lower tier starter. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if we take an OT early though. I also wouldn’t be surprised if we take our next 10+ year center in the first 3 rounds. If we don’t give up picks to move up, I expect those positions to be our first 4 selections.

What I expect is that we trade up 3-6 spots from #17 to get JP Jr. The stars just seem aligned in that direction.

Also, if we pick either Paris Johnson or Jones at #17, I’m a pretty happy camper. After watching some games, I am certain that Skowronski is a guard at the next level, and probably not the best guard in this draft.

Even though I created this thread my preference would be to trade down and pick up extra draft capital. With that being said if Porter Jr. or Witherspoon is there in the mid teens I could see them jumping ahead of Washington to try to grab one of those guys. It just feels like it is lining up for us to draft a CB high. We have the need, the draft is deep at the position and we added a vet who could mentor a young draft talent. If we stay put I think it will be Wright, Bresee or Banks.

The Steelers could go in so many different directions. One thing I am certain. I believe they will make a trade or two during this draft. This Front Office is apparently more aggressive than previous ones. I could see us trading up or down and also trading Dotson to try to get a fifth or sixth round pick.

there is so much talk of DJ getting traded and the way weidl is moving interior pieces into place, i can't see him doing all that and just letting the tackles remain. i can see jpj as the first if he's there but i also see a bunch of things pointing to them doing a lot to this line still. they have shown interest in many tackles and centers.

i think it depends what is offered for players like okrafor, DJ and maybe even cole or dotson, though i would like to keep cole , i'm not sure he's the weidl type of fit only that he is extremely position versatile.

i also see them looking at more than one corner or safety, just by who they are talking to and looking at. 2 DB's, 2 linemen would not surprise me in this draft. that's 4 of 7 as they sit now without any trades. something is going to happen with a trade i believe.

What makes you think DJ will be traded, causing us to take a nearly $20 million dead cap charge? Talk by fans or media talking heads who have no clue how the salary cap works?

doesn't that depend on how the trade is worked? what i have been reading about his hatred of the canada system and his output in it. i'm not sure anything is off the table this year. i just see this front office so much more aggressive than the one where we wait and see what drops to us.

I love Highsmith, but I don't see him as a future HOF'er like Anderson. A lot of his success has been the result of having Watt on the other side. He was relatively quiet when Watt went down....not a difference maker. He is very solid though. But we won exactly 1 game last year without Watt.

To me your argument sounds like......"what do we need to trade up to snag Troy Polomalu for when we are doing ok with Lee Flowers" or even better "what do we need Kevin Greene for when we already have Greg Lloyd?"

Now I'm not saying we should mortgage the future for trading up to snag Anderson. I'm just saying Anderson to me is by far the best defensive prospect in this draft, and I would love to have him......over Highsmith.

But if we are gonna trade up, we might as well aim high. I dont see the point of moving up 4 spots to snag a guy who could easily be there at 17 anyways.

I would actually prefer we trade down this year.

Alvin got the huge contract because of Watt. And some said that he made Watt :roflmao:

Yes Highsmith's success has been better with Watt in there. But you can include the defense as a whole.

I don't argue the fact that Anderson won't be a beast but he has not played against NFL caliper players yet. And it would be a major loss of picks to move up and grab anyone. He is going in the top 5. If they do I hope its a franchise left tackle in which I believe they won't have to move for.

From what I see on Spotrac, the pre-June 1 dead money is $19.67 million; post June 1 is $5.8 million, but that does us no good for this year’s draft.

It’s possible that Spotrac is wrong about the $19.67 million if he’s traded (not released) pre June 1 because they show $8 million of 2023 salary guaranteed for injury. That could go to the new team, which would make the dead cap charge $11.67 million, which is still not good.

This draft is really deep at CB, there's no need to trade up to get one, there will be good ones available in the third round still IMO.

Nobody has played against NFL caliber players yet. Also, I'm not sure they wouldn't have to move up to take a franchise left tackle.

Agree that it would be in the Steelers best interest to stay put or even trade down. My point is IF we were to trade up, go big!

Yes if You don’t want a top Guy, and want to look for another one next year. There is 3....maybe 4 worth a 1st round.. after that....you get a bunch of what We already have.....unless You get really really lucky....like a AB type thing.

No need to trade back. Take the one at 32.

I like JSN personally, and won't flinch if we took him or Zay Jones. Jones gives Antonio Brown vibes. And JDN is just Diontae Johnson with better hands.

That said would Not trade up for anyone. Matter fact, looking to trade down and get an extra pick or 2.

I didn't say it couldn't My Friend....I'm just saying there are only 3, or 4 worth taking in the 1st round this year. I actually only think 3, but with enough argument....I could see 4.

I think Young is a great player, but His size does scare Me. I heard today that He walks around at 175 pounds. If He can get past that....He should be good, but can He????
