The first 2 NFL coaching firings just happened. Lovie Smith from the Texans and Cliff Kingsbury from the Cards. The Steelers have had 3 Head coaches in 54 years, the Texans will now have had 4 in the last 3 years.

Wonder how much more leash Vrabel is going to get in Nashville. Losing your last 7 to lose the division to the jags and miss postseason when you were on easy street is really painful.

I'm wondering if Dallas fails in first round if McCarthy
Get's the ax? Jerry Jones then brings in Sean Peyton?

    They just fired 4 coaches.
So the next staff is probably his last.

Dallas is a high-profile, desirable job because of Jerry Jones. Dallas is also a nightmare, PITA job because of Jerry Jones. Don't know Peyton's ability to work with others well enough to say if he could be effective there. He might like working more for an organization whose owner is hands off of the day-to-day football operations.

Yeah.... this is the most damning stat though..

I get that the Steelers have not had a Playoff Win in Six Years, which is disappointing for certain. However, imagine even half of the Cardinals faith given this time frame. 2008 was literally the major bright spot within that Franchise's Century of existence.

    Just... oof....

28-37-1 in 4 years, no postseason wins, bookending his AZ career with 2 last place finishes, and saddling the franchise with a $230M midget. This wasn't a surprise. The extension was.

A result of piss poor Ownership.

A lot of fuss has been made of Ownerships of the Texans, Commanders and the Browns; rightfully so. However.... Micheal Bidwell?!...

    Really?!

Crazy, Cliff just signed that 6 year extension in March 2022.

I am not sure what this means for Cliff's bank account.

Would he make an interesting OC candidate for the Steelers?

Fully Guranteed if I am reading the contract correctly. Mind you the likes of Jon Gruden and Matt Rhule were also fully Guranteed if I recall. I believe the same could apply to the likes of Kliff as well.

But, do they have to stay unemployed from the NFL to get all that money for the life of the contract?

That is what I have always been confused about on coaching contracts.

Speaking of HC's we should have a poll as to who will be first member with a fire Tomlin thread in 2023;)

    Yep.

If the contract is fully guranteed, unless the Owner elects to go after the money, said finances go to the Head Coach; all the more reason I am a bit shocked that Rhule accepted the job at Nebraska as quickly as he did. Within that same vein, I doubt that Kliff will have to wait long despite his..... less than desirable records in the second half of the season; college or NFL.

Regarding the Cards?! Oof.... are they screwed!! :lolol:

Yet they have more playoff wins than we do in the last 12 years.
I understand the playoff wins are hard to come by. The SB is hard to win. But when I think back to the talent we have had over the years, nobody can tell me that we haven't underachieved all these years.

We have lost several playoff games that we should have won, and most of those were to absolutely terrible QB's who weren't even in the league much longer.

Our standard is apparently .500 in the regular season and underachieving in the playoffs. Lots of turnover on the roster over the years and the same result. At what point is it on the coach when the team keeps underachieving in the post season?

    How is that possible ???
We have five....they have 4 in that time??? They have never won past the wildcard.

I started in 2011, the year after our SB appearance. I feel like that's when the decline started.
Yes, I'm aware that's arbitrary. If I include 2010, we're higher. If we go back even further, we're even higher. That doesn't change anything though. Since our last SB run, we seemingly keep losing to mediocre QB's. Hell, we should have lost to AJ McCaron too. A win is a win, but Cinci gave us that game after they literally had it wrapped up.

If we didn't have great teams over the years, I would blame the GM. But I think we've had some very, very good teams and we haven't turned that into any kind of playoff success. We'll likely never see a dynasty like the Pats again in our lifetimes, and I don't expect the Steelers to do what they did, but at least stop underachieving in the playoffs basically every year.

They get the money unless they fire "with cause", which I don't think applies to Kingsbury. If they work in the NFL then it offsets - whatever the new team pays reduces what the Cardinals would pay.

Doesn't seem like Kingsbury is interested in working "for free"
