He is also one of my all time Steeler favorites. There are so many I can't ever make a list without leaving somebody out.

I've heard some complaints about Bradshaw not being present last night, but he did do a very nice tribute on the pregame show. The hardest part about retiring his number is getting him to come back for the ceremony, as he has always used his Fox work as a cover for not coming back to events. Maybe they could do it on a Monday or Thursday night.

It was great to see some of the players who did come back last night- especially Glen Edwards who's had some tough times in retirement- but does anyone know why Jack Ham wasn't there?

I think Franco and Greene are good enough.

How many numbers do they really need to make unavailable for the current team?

I love Bradshaw, but I don’t think he is coming back, and if they retire his number they might as well retire most of the other 70s players.

I like how they don’t hand out certain numbers for a couple years. Although sometimes I wonder about their decisions. I didn’t like seeing Heath Miller’s number being handed out so quickly.

It probably should happen soon, but it won't, look how long for them to retire Franco's number.

    I know why the Steelers don't retire # 47.

Mel might come out of retirement any day, they might even still have his equipment hanging in his stall.

The guy is like Dick Clark he doesn't age. Maybe there is a picture hanging somewhere of Mel that is aging.

And Terry won Super Bowls by firing missiles 40-50 yards downfield and coming up big every single time he had to, not by dinking and dunking his way down the field.

Terry came back for I believe the 75th anniversary celebrations. Hard to imagine that was 15 years ago already, but it happened. I'm sure he'd come back for a jersey retirement. These guys are getting up there in age and might not all be in the best of health. The weather was downright awful the past few days. It was also Christmas eve and I'm sure some had holiday plans with their families. You never know how many more Christmases you have left.

Exactly what I was thinking last night. Suit the Man up. Of Course He's My all time favorite Steeler so I'm a bit biased.

My then girlfriend and I had our picture taken with Gabe Rivera probably two or three years after his injury. Could not believe how big he was. He was a really gentle, soft-spoken guy. It's sad that one bad decision cost him so much. I know I still have it. If I can find it, I'll post it.

The Michel Briere thing was very sad. He was in a coma for a while before he passed. Hard to say how good the Pens would have been with him back then. They had some pretty good clubs back in the 70's. His presence might have put them over the top. Anyway, that's why #21 is retired. Jagr's number 68 will be the next, then Sid's #87.

That's a good question. I just started the Football Life about Harris and he's all over that, so you would think he would have wanted to be there for the ceremony.

My major question in all of this is why haven't the Steelers began retiring numbers officially years ago?! Yes, many numbers simply are not within circulation of the team anymore but certain numbers are well past due the point of being honored. Hell, the New York Jets have more numbers retired and they do not even come laughably close to the success the Steelers have had within the past half century.

I really am confused on that one.:hmm:

Considering that there aren't many jersey #'s retired as it it... why not do something unorthodox and more of what colleges do, and hand out these jerseys to players that are potentially deemed worthy. Hand out 26 to all pro CB's, 43 to all pro safeties and so on? People can disagree if they want and that's ok. I'm just spitballing an idea for the sake of it.

In watching TB on the studio shows yesterday I was reminded of Dan Rooney towards the end of his life. It was where his shoulders were slumped forward, he looked like his back was looking more bent and wearing his age on all of his body. Terry looked like he was leaning right on his chair almost on the diagonal, propped up on one elbow and had the look of pain about him. It also reminded me of Jerry Lewis near the end of his life where chronic pain from all the pratfalls he had done in his life to get laughs had taken its toll

They could have done it years ago...but I think it is nice that Steelers can keep the celebrations going. We could have retired them decades ago, but then after the SB anniversaries what reason is there to bring them back?

This is my take as well. From that Era they chose an O and D player that were IMHO the start of the dynasty. The Steeler wall of honor is enough to recognize the rest.

Lambert hasn't made a public appearance in 40 years. He doesn't do celebrations and other niceties. It's surprising that he even showed up in Canton to get his gold jacket.

I was talking about Ham, not Bradshaw, though Bradshaw is with FOX, not CBS.

It's kind of odd. I guess for him, when he was done with football, he was done with football.
