Why is Marcus Allen still with the team?

I remember in 1970 when Steeler TE Dave Smith spiked the football on the 5 yard line in a Monday night game. That was completely stupid. In Plaxico Burress rookie year he didn't know the pro rule where you could get up and run if you weren't touched. He made a first down catch and spiked the ball without being touched and the other team recovered, utterly stupid play. Roosevelt Nix was tackled 2 yards short of the first down against the Saints on a fake punt and proceeded to do a ridiculous first down dance. Just last year Chase Claypool did a 14 second celebration after making a first down against the Vikings. He was too dumb to know or care that the clock was still running and cost the Steelers a chance to possibly send the game into overtime.
However none of them was as mind numbingly idiotic as Marcus Allen walking into the Panthers huddle on 4th and 27 as they were getting ready to punt the football to us. He's lucky the Steelers were playing a crappy team who only came away with 3 points from the blunder. Even at that we still had to sweat out an onside kick attempt at the end.

Larry Fitzgerald was a rare bird. Players have always done this, you just see it more due to the amount of cameras and social media.

Hines Ward and Ike Taylor have both said that Cowher was more of a players coach than Tomlin is, Tomlin is more of the disciplinarian. Cowher was more loose on curfews, practice schedules, and workouts.

We need to understand as well, Tomlin's hands are more tied when it comes to what he can and can't do with players and practices under the CBA. Cowher also never had to deal with social media.

I would have liked to have seen the reaction of Joe Greene and Jack Lambert sitting on the bench celebrating back to back sacks to force a 4th and 27. Only to be told that they had to go back out on the field because some marginal special teamer just walked into the opposing teams huddle and gave them an automatic first down. If Allen would have done that back then, he would have to just turn and run for his life out of the stadium gates.

Just saw what he did. That was amazingly stupid and selfish. I could see a rookie being that oblivious, but not a vet like him. He should be disciplined very strongly, like a 1-2 game suspension w/o pay for conduct detrimental to the team. That’s pretty detrimental turning 4th and 27 into a 1st down.

He is still a Rock star here in the Steel city from his playing days at Pitt
that continued into the NFL. The man has more class in his little fingers
than most current players will ever have. A tribute to his Mom and Dad.

Cowher might of let them look after themselves in off hrs they are men after all. But I still think Cowher would of been washing Allens face with his spit as he tore a strip off him on the sidelines.

i'd like to think Tomlin knows what he's doing, but these kinds of things just get me doubting that. I think Allen should've been suspended for a couple games at least.

    what would Noll have done?

The worst part for me was the dumb look on his face like he never deserved the penalty. In what world would any player think its ok to start jawing at players during their time out huddle Jebus H Christ wtf is wrong with him. Rumor is Tomlin said " Keep On Truckin" to Marcus WOW

Ernie Holmes never did anything that stupid on the football field. He only shot at cars and helicopters but it wasn't on the day of a game so he was good to go.

that was off hours. Allen’s was in the middle of a game. Bosses don’t care what you do in your off hours as long as your ready to act professional and perform at game time

The purge of many players should be on the horizon and
He should be on the list.We have many players on the roster
Including practice squad players that have had a chance to show Steelers if they are worth keeping.

I think he’ll run for 75 yards today for the Raiders vs Steelers-not bad for a 62 year old
