The word was that he wanted "Fitz type money" which is $120 million with $50 million guaranteed. The word also was that he turned down $50 million. The word was also that even his agent was irritated at him. There is no doubt that the Rooney's felt he was asking too much because he held out of camp. At some point it is reasonable to assume that he's asking for a monumental amount of money and these stories have to be true. But the money that he's asking for is not even the point of my malice towards this guy. It's the fact that ON THE FIELD OF PLAY IN THE YEAR 2012 he has NOT produced at a level that even warrants AB money! Then for him to come out and say that he can't even "focus" unless he's being fed the ball is one of the most retarded things I have ever heard in my life. He's a bum looking for a handout just like the majority of guys in today's NFL. Then when he doesn't get his way he starts blaming people. Is he so dumb to think that the Rooney's DON'T want premiere players on their team? Is he so detatched from reality that he thinks they WOULDN'T pay him Fitz money if he produced like Fitz? The Rooney's are old school and therefore have the old school mentality which is put up or shut up. At this point Wallace has not put up. Therefore...

I have a feeling Plex will be back if Wallace leaves via free-agency.

"When you dont get the ball for 2 and a half quarters you lose focus" I've been a longtime steeler fan since 1975 so I've seen my fair share of players come and go. However, never in all these years have I ever despised a Steeler player as bad as I despise Mike Wallace. I live and breath my Steelers and have always found a way to like even the most unlikeable of players as long as he was a Steeler. This guy is absolutely pathetic.

This article made me cringe with shame that he's even a part of this team. To think that their was a time when I was so convinced that Mike would be the next Jerry Rice. What a fool I was. He's a cry baby excuse maker and this article has only assured me that he is exactly what I thought he was ....an excuse making whiner cry baby whos already over paid. For every positive thing he does on the field for our team, he will ruin it with two negatives the following game ...and now MORE of this off the field excuse nonsense. I REALLY HOPE YOUR GONE NEXT SEASON MIKE ... And I'm as true a fan as their is !!!!

Wallace does sound like an idiot prima donna receiver, but at least he is saying that he has to man up and make the most of his opportunities. It could have been better, could have been worse. I am in the same place on Wallace that I have been since last offseason: he's a legitimate starting "X" receiver because of his deep speed, and because of his ability to take a slant to the house if the defense plays too far off of him (as we saw in the Giant game). He will make enough plays over the course of a season to justify starting, and the threat that he represents will open things up for guys like Brown, Sanders and Miller. However, he is not a star, and does not deserve the kind of money that guys like V. Jackson, Garcon and our own Brown got last offseason. I think that other teams see that, and now that Al Davis is out of the league it's less likely that there will be somebody stepping out with $50 million for Mike when free agency opens up. It could happen though. Even though he's a legit "X," he could be a pretty dangerous "Z" if paired up with a super X guy like Calvin Johnson. Could you imagine the opportunities that Mike would get in Detroit? How about in Chicago opposite Brandon Marshall? Cincinnati would come to mind, but I think that they have something special in Sanu and will not be looking for a #2 guy.

I often see a lot of fan hatred directed at players who ask for more than they're probably worth (not just from Steeler fans, but from fans across the league). I certainly see that here. I can fully understand why some folks are going to hate him. Hardworking people see someone say "$50 million isn't enough to play a game" and then go out and underperform, and it leaves a disgusting taste in their mouths.

I look at it a bit differently. I try to disconnect the emotion from the discussion. Every player will, and SHOULD, try to get the most that they can out of their 1st big payday because the odds are that it will be their last big payday. I ask "what is he really worth to the team?" That's the cap on what I would pay him. In Mike's case I see a guy who, because of his speed and the fact that he will make enough big plays over the season for opposing defense to need to account for him on every play, is worth NFL #2 receiver money. I've been disconnected from studying salaries and cap numbers for a few years, but my gut tells me that a 5 year/$30-35 million deal would make me happy to keep Mike around. Anything more than that and I'm saying buh-bye. I negotiate for a living, so maybe I am unusual in being able to disconnect emotion from dollars when things like this are being discussed.

So, I'd be curious - for those of you who are ticked with Wallace, do you want him gone completely, with us getting nothing in return other than a late 3rd or 4th round comp selection in 2014, or would you be happy having him back for a reasonable contract amount? If you say good riddance, who exactly is going to step in and handle the "X" receiver spot? Do you really think that either Brown or Sanders can be as effective playing on the line where a defender can get his hands on them at the snap? I am not sure that's the case. They are both small, quick guys, and part of their success (IMO) lies in the fact that they are able to get 2 steps of takeoff and acceleration before the defenders have any chance of touching them. I also think that part of their success is due to the fact that at least one safety will likely be rolling Mike's way at the snap.

That's all food for thought. I'm not a huge Wallace fan, but when I look at the X's and O's I see solid enough value there to want to keep him if the $$$ are right. Also, the upside is huge if he can get his head out of his butt crack.

Mike has just 4 games left to get I think 21 catches to eclipse his personal best for a season. His Yardage is down and he'll never see 100yds this year unless he has a blowout 4 games. I personally hope he does as it'll help us. He'll still get a fat contract next year albeit with another club.

I'm glad he's making the excuses now. Get it out in the open, stop crying, wake up and get busy helping this team win another ring before you leave.

I KNOW ! that's why i found it funny as hell. part of me wants to drown his ass if he were a lifeguard, but hey that's coming from a surfer and i have seen many a rescues, but just because they are not needed all the time it's not like they forget how to swim or remind the swimmers that they are there. For one they are always blowing the whistle to stay away from the pier orfor us jumping off it to get out passed the breakers. Nags Head. It's football,Mike! ;-)

How is it 2.5 quarters youre not getting the ball when you have 3 drops before half time? Including a TD pass. The end of the season is coming, he screwed up turning down the money, hes stats arent impressive, hes dropping balls left and right, and theres no focus on him. Which means a big pay day may or may not happen.

Is it me or does he sound alot like Terrel Owens? If he would ve just cried, I wouldve swore it was TO's younger brother.

Very well said. I've been accused of being a Wallace hater which I am not. I just don't believe that he negotiated with the Steelers in good faith and deluded himself into believing that he was the next Jerry Rice when he is closer to the next Renaldo Nehemiah at this point in his career.
