Signing Mitch was a smart move. Your HOF QB retires. There is no contingency plan. They get a QB with a high potential ceiling with starting experience, which is better than none. They get him at a reasonable price not having to sell the team in hopes of getting say an overrated Deshaun Watson that come with all sorts of baggage and legal problems.

They draft the most NFL ready QB prospect in the draft giving him time to develop before throwing him to the wolves potentially destroying him.

So I disagree I think they did good with their decision based upon their options and limitations.

The Steelers are clearly in a rebuilding year with a clear deficit on the offensive line which i expect to be remedied in next year's draft.

a few more but those are the three that come to mind. I don’t know maybe JEH likes him as well since he also harps on the complainers?

And I already know you also want him gone! Or so you sneak a little post in like that every so often while chastising anyone who posts negatively about MT or the Organization. The Glemm special try to play both sides but I can see right through your BS.

I was done with him when he sat down with Dungy to talk about the Patriots when we hadn’t even played Jacksonville yet. But I only needed to say it once.

I just make fun of whinny assed complainers who don’t have the mental capacity to have a real thought. And the dumbasses. And the trolls.

We already had a Mitch on the roster and Mitch only had a basement, he suck but they brought him in.
They over drafted a QB that was nowhere near pro ready. I agree they are in a rebuild and why they should have went with Mason rookie and a cheap vet not a waste like Mitch.

Again, how can you be cheap if you're up against the salary cap every year?

The problem wasn't appropriation as much as allocation. Not much we could have done differently with the way the NFL is today. JMO>

Agreed but, I question people who claim the Rooneys are cheap. When you're on a fixed budget and you spend up to the limit of that budget every year, how is that cheap?

Fire sale with who??? The players who other teams might want (and would actually bring draft value) are signed to contracts that are prohibitive of a trade. Besides those 2 or 3 guys, exactly who do you propose trading? You have to have interest and I really can't think of anyone that would bring any value, or someone would trade for that they could not get equal value in the second or bow tier FA market next year.

Some of the players we have are not great, but are adequate when surrounded by better talent. Some are just inexperienced and possibly will develop as starters.

Others just need to go...but what team is going to trade for someone like e that when the league has practice squad players that are equal to that. We need DL for sure, but we have to see what loudermilk and leal have..a 4th or lower pick is going to be 50/50 or Less on being any better.

Because going with Mason Rudolph would be the prudent decision lmao. Or do you sell the franchise for Deshaun Watson?

So we agree to disagree that they made a poor judgment. Imo they did what they could with the circumstances.

So they have a re-building year or two.. so what who doesn't? The Steelers have been unique in their ability to not fall into to a slump for a long time. But the time is here.

Time will tell regarding Pickett being able to take over reigns as the next franchise QB. You obviously don't think he is. I believe he may be with time.

So what is Ridder, Willis, et al doing with their respective teams? Pretty much nothing compared to Kenny Picket. So I think your comment regarding Picket not being 'NFL ready' as not having merit or base.

Let's co.pare Kenny to tip 10 picks David Carr, Josh Rosen, or even Sam Darnold, and Baker Mayfield.

If Trubisky doesn't pan out simply cut him next year and try again with a small cap hit. It was the best option they had without selling out the team for an overrated QB facing charges or trading for an inferior QB on Baker Mayfield who I don't even like anyways.

I don't understand why signing Mitch was such a huge mistake for the Steelers. They signed Mitch to a very Cap friendly deal for the 2022 and game themselves an out at the end of his first year. He was the top rated free agent QB on the Market last offseason and the Steelers brought him in for $5.25 million for 2022. They will cut him at the end of the year to save $8 million and eat his $2.5 million in Bonus money on next years cap space.

Mitch cost the Steelers nothing in Draft picks and signed for basically backup money. He could have made an additional $6.2 million more in incentives this year if he had played better. The Steelers never get the top rated free agent at any position and I thought they would be chasing Mariotta or Winston last offseason; not singing the #1 Free Agent QB 30 seconds after free agency began.

I myself was pulling for Mason to shine in the offseason, and was hoping he would get the start in the Carolina game last week.

I hated the idea of a 1st round QB pick last year because they would need to give up multiple picks to move up and get their QB. I was very happy with the Kenny pick because the Steelers only had to use their 1st round pick and nothing else to get him.

It wasn't a mistake. They weren't going to trade for Watson or Wilson, so signing a stopgap made sense. He's a guy who should probably be a backup, but he had experience as a starter and at least a slim possibility of some upside. That upside hasn't panned out, but he was never meant to be a guy who had to carry the offense or be the long-term starter. Part of why things went so poorly early is the injuries that led to the defense falling apart and the lack of a running game early on.

More importantly, there is very little commitment after this season. As you wrote, it was a team-friendly deal. They are clearly going into next season with Pickett as the starter, so they can adjust accordingly. If they don't like the free agent market, they can keep him for $8 million. If they think they can get a better or cheaper backup, he's gone.

Fire sale are you kidding all we have is a shed full of kindling. Heyward showing signs of aging fast and has a big contract. Watt has a huge contract and is still great when healthy but after a few injuries that would be a concern for other teams. Johnson overrated and is not a true No 1 WR might get a late second or a third . Najee still on his rookie deal and most teams have wizened up to know decent RB'S are available further down the draft eg. Warren . Highsmith good value but if we traded him no matter what we get back we have to replace him plus a back up.
There is not much depth on this roster because of too many reaches , tweeners and out right misses in the draft over the last 6 or 7 yrs.
Take a look back at some of Cowher's best teams Kirschke had Keisel behind him. Porter had Harrison in waiting, Haggins and Foote had Woodly and Timmins. Those teams had incredible depth behind the starters. This team has some great talent at WR TE RB OLB but DL is Cam and not much else, ILB used to be our strength now its a huge weakness, corners are below average.
Lots of work to do in the next two drafts. Go back to drafting best player available if their guy isn't there when they pick.

Fans are impatient, but management deserves the criticism.

The worst of poor management of the roster started in the last few years of Ben`s career. There was the letting of the O-line get old together and only afterwards scrambling to do something about it, not to mention sticking with Ben too long.

We did great getting Watt, but how about most everything else? Above average or below?

Just saying management has not been ideal for some time, maybe below average and that is fair.

Perhaps, but any chance this offense had of being decent this year went out the window. DK and GP was a good duo that would be harder to guard when you throw in our TEs, but now...? Why trade for DK when you turn around and get rid of GP?

I really wish that the front office would explain moves sometimes. This one really doesn't make sense to me outside of, he's gone after this year, get value for him now. But at the cost of this season?

This thread was in 2022 by me and I guaranteed the steelers would be in a better position in 2025 if they would have started a complete rebuild (not just in half) after 2022....Instead they won 4 meaningless games to finish at 9-8(against 4 bad teams) in 2022 to continue the streak and the steelers thought they had a really good team.Or maybe they are just happy to be mediocre who is possible

Doesn't matter what we do. Because as long as Tomlin is the coach of this team, we're not winning in the post season.
