Everything we are writing and reading here now will be the same thing next season. Nothing is going to change. We will be without a good QB, Oline, D, and maybe lose Pickens for lack of playing time. Why because the franchise owner has old time thinking and that will not change.

I get on this team pretty hard but I disagree. Pickett is getting better. The lines need help (the draft should help). But I don’t see them being the exact same. Hell if Mitch doesn’t play like dog doo doo in the red zone this team is 6-7.

 

Really disappointed here Glenn. If there was ever a moment where the tissue box needed to be offered it would be now.

I disagree with the OP about Pickett. The kid has the tools and the smarts and has steadily improved. Unfortunately he has had 2 head injuries ie: Concussions.

I also disagree about Pickens. He is signed for 4 years. Not going anywhere.

But,

The left side of the O Line needs an upgrade.

Both ILBers are garbage. At least Spillane is above the line stopping the run. Upgrades needed.

The corner situation is dim. Besides Sutton who do you have confidence in? And they are going to lose Sutton, he's not going to take crumbs.

Strong Safety? Who is it going to be? I'm sorry Edmonds is to inconsistent. Maybe sign Kazee to a Steeler type deal. Edmonds will get some play on the open market unlike last season.

Defensive Line: Alualu will be gone, Adams is a nice swing guy not a starter, Heyward is showing his age, Loudermilk is a project, Leal has not done enough of to make a judgement. Wormley has improved and is coming into his own. Ogunjobi has flashes but is inconsistent.
Wormley right now is our best D Lineman. Need Upgrades.

Oh and a punter. That 17 yard shank better have sealed his fate after the season.

To think they we are a few nails on a roof away is premature. They have several needs to address after the season. And it's not going to be a one year fix. I didn't even mention coaching...

 

The Steelers do need to improve in the areas of scouting and coaching, If the scouts are highlighting quality players to be drafted, then the coaching is subpar. If the coaches are working with average talent, the team is going to have average play. What I am seeing is an average combination of both. A draft needs to produce 2 starters in the first year, and a total of 3-4 starters in the draft class over a 4 year cycle. The team isn't doing that as 8 of the 22 starters came via free agency. As already pointed out many times, the coaching doesn't seem to get the next man up ready to be the next man up, but in fairness to the coaches, the depth in preseason games has been abysmal. For me at this point, it is an Art Rooney II issue. Tomlin is a serviceable HC, but he needs strong coordinators. Rooney II needs to step up and pay for better scouts and coaching.

 

Funny... that's what I envision the homers do, with Tomlin standing at the bottom of that hole yelling "standard is the standard".

 

This is nothing 10+ years, they did make it to the AFCCG in 2016, I lived through the years 1980-2005 without any Super Bowl wins.
