But don't you think the team's record should be of major concern to a head coach, maybe the most majorest...

Of course it should be, every franchise is going to have a down year every now and then.

The chargers were still 11-5 in 1994....It was still a awful loss for Cowher(his worst in his career) but it was still in the AFC title game.Cowher has never loss against a team below 11 wins.I don't think it happen with Noll too in a 16 games season....It happen 4 times under Tomlin in 17 playoffs games

Reid make the NFC title 5 times with the eagles and he had 183 regular season win before Mahomes...So he was a great coach before Mahomes. The only thing he was missing was an SB, which is very hard to do since only one team can win a super bowl per year

You sure on this? Cowher's teams had a reputation of playing down to teams too. Or are you just talking about playoffs?

Cowher took 15 years to build a roster that won a Super Bowl, what's the difference?

They let Noll be a loser for 12 years here after his last win.

    Half and half

Sure a better postseason record would desirable

But if you made the playoffs I’m not calling that a down year

Otherwise in theory every year 31 teams have a down year

I don't know man. Last year we barely squeaked in and then got owned by the Chiefs in WC game. Year before, we got embarrassed by little brother brownies. The year we were 13-3 and got beat by the underdog jags was a huge disappointment. So, I'm looking at how you got there and how you showed up and played in the games when you did make it. You can't convince me that the steelers even showed up for the 3 PO appearances in the past 6 years. Add to that the 3 seasons without even sniffing a WC, and it adds up to underachieving and not meeting expectations.

We're firmly in last place in the division. Granted there are still 7 games to play but you have to go all the way back to 1988 the last time steelers came in last in the division.

Don't talk to me about the super bowl, since the steelers haven't been close to that since a long time..... They haven't even been close to winning a playoff game since 2017 and that's a major problem but it seems that the standard for the steelers is getting lower and lower

It's not the number of super bowls that's the problem, the main problem is that the steelers have fewer playoff wins than team like the Houston Texans since 2011

Just because they didn't win a playoff game doesn't mean it was a down year, I consider the 2022 season to be a down year, in 2017 they were the #2 seed in the AFC the end was disappointing but that's not a down season.

2017 regular season was great but then you come out flat and are 1 and done. Last year they squeaked in a didn't belong there. Year before they go 11-0 then completely sh!t the bed and lose 4 of 5 to end the season and get biatch slapped by the brownies, not once but twice in a row. Once again, one and done. Then 3 missing post season all together. Sorry but 1 out of 6 seasons not being a down year is not the standard that the steelers should aspire to.

The schedule is really that easy as we saw with Indy last night. Besides the Ravens which they may be able to split the other teams are not good granted Browns are getting Watson now. Tomlins streak is still possible I’m not sure about playoffs at 8-8-1 if you look at the current standings too many teams to jump.

I think the Steelers has as good as a chance to beat anyone and lose to anyone. This league is really awful right now. It's a transitional period between aging QB's Wilson, Rogers, Ryan, and Brady as good as washed with young QB's starting to make their mark Tua, Fields, Hurts and Lawrence, and really the only guys looking like franchise QBs in Burrow, Mahomes, Herbert and Josh Allen. Jackson and Murrey are QB's that are built totally different than a traditional QB and are stars in their own right; they're obviously top ten QB's in this league, even top 5. Then you got adequate guys like Carr, Stafford and maybe Goff; they're ok but not really stars. Other than that the league just lacks quality QB play. Pickett is far too early to tell if he's going to be an adequate guy like Carr, a franchise guy, or a bust.

Now they just need to go 5-1... for what? Just so Tomlin maintains his dubious never-had-a-losing-season record? Which I just don't see happening. Even if by some miracle they make it to 9-8, probably not going to be good enough for a WC. I appreciate the optimism but at some point, reality needs to come into the picture.
