But if this is true… why did every other qb not named Big Ben struggle?!?

 

There is plenty of blame to go around. He is not wrong but if he said OL is bad and defense is inconsistent and looking bad at times he would not be wrong either.

 

One problem, Steelers just don't develop QBs.
Hoke did say they could address that in the Offseason. Hire Staff to get him coached up. A QB Whisperer.

 

Pickett has his own personal qb coach

 

What??? In the regular season, or just off season??

 

Tony Racioppi is his name. I know he’s worked with him through his college career and after the draft. Does he work with him during the week? I don’t know. In an interview on nfl+ he talks about how it’s different now. They used to work together “for pockets of time now they work together 4-5 days a week”. With that being said I don’t know when that was recorded and if he’s referring to work they do together during the season. I would assume at a minimum Sullivan and racioppi speak and are on the same page so to speak.

 

The part I found interesting

Najee gets first contact. .7 yards after handoff

Warren gets first contact over 2 yards after handpff

and I don't remember the exact numbers..... but Najee has only faced a 6 man box like 20 times all year... and Warren faced only 6 the majority of time

When Najee is ok the field they are focusing on taking him out of the game plan

the talking heads butter both sides of the bread… easy way to be controversial/on the administrative up and up all the same. Hoke had good takes and towed the line as well. He isn’t wrong in either respect but either way Canada has to go eventually I think or suppose or something.

 

Najee takes the hand off and sort of scatterbrains himself for a split second and does a jig. Warren is full speed ahead and at the exact time that the blocking scheme is designed to work.

People Qb's need help to be successful unless your name is Mahomes, and we saw in the one Superbowl even he couldn't do anything. Get KP some quality OL, Quality OC, Quality OLC and you will see a better prepared Offensive unit. In reference to KP, he has had a Qb guru he has
worked with since his Pitt days, let's hope he continues to try and improve his fundamentals reading of defenses, technique and such and coordinate with his current Steeler QB coach

Agree. However, when you are 2-6 and playing the way we are, most anything someone says claiming what the reason for it is could be right. Only winning eliminates this. JMO>

 

Didn't this team hire a QB coach after the MR and Duck fiasco a few years back get a dedicated QB coach like most of the normally staffed teams in the NFL? Back then, the OC was trying to run the offense and be a position coach at the same time. How'd that work? Now you say we're going back to the future with this? That's one of the issues with this team in which I can't figure out who is responsible to who for what? JMO>

 

Warren is a more instinctive runner than Najee. Najee is the kind of guy you want to be first off the bus but even though he looks like Tarzan, his play this season has been more like Jane. (Is that sexist?)

There was a time..great looking back. The Steelers had something like 7 total coach's, Noll was actually the Sp teams coach. Other staffs had 12 and that was considered insane. I have seen some teams with over 22 on the coaching staff. Some of these include dual designations, like Rb coach and running coordinator. The game has certainly progressed and the need for specific instruction is apparent. But communication needs to be fluid from the top down. The total collapse in nearly every phase of our game starts from the top. The players just may suck that bad, or the scheme is just that bad. This O has been bad for a long time.
