Warren should be the starter; Najee 3rd down back

For a second, set aside any bias you have due to the fact that Najee was a 1st round pick and Jaylen was a UDFA. Also set aside the fact that Najee was the incumbent.

Based solely on performance and skills
Warren pros: faster, hits the hole faster, better vision, runs harder
    Najee pros: better receiver

It makes sense for Warren to be the back on 1st and 2nd downs and bring in Najee on 3rd downs.

If you disagree, tell me why without referring to their draft position (irrelevant) or the fact that Najee was the starter coming into the season (also irrelevant).

I think there is still some concern about Warren's ability to protect the ball when he gets more carries. Also, Harris has more of a track record. They aren't just looking at what they have done this season. Harris's play last season is a factor. Clearly, they still think he has more upside and they aren't going to change that based on Warren's 23 carries as a pro. I don't doubt that experience and draft position are factors in the decision to give Harris more playing time.

There is a good argument to be made that they should be splitting the role right now, but I think Warren is the better fit as the third-down back. They clearly love his blitz pickup and it's not as if he can't make plays as a receiver.

What is the source of concern re: Warren's ball security?

Najee has begun to look better these last two weeks.

Vintage Najee here, he juked that guy so bad he plowed his own teammate.

Everyone wants to ignore Najee was playing hurt but they also don’t take into account the stacked boxes he faces, last week he face 3rd or 4th most. If you haven’t noticed, there have been some gigantic spaces for Warren to run when he’s in but why aren’t they there for Najee? 8 men fronts. No one is scheming to stop Warren.

3 games ago Najee was running with a steel plate in his shoe. He’ll be fine.

I still don't understand why MT said that Warren is going to be the 3rd down back and then at a crucial time in the Miami game it was 3rd and 2 with Warren on the sidelines, Najee in the back field and they chuck 30 yards down field for an incompletion. Who's running this circus? :tequila:

Yes, Harris showed some really nice flashes and as noted, 'maybe that steel plate did have more impact that I originally thought'
    He's also a better athlete.

He fumbled multiple times in preseason and once in a regular-season game. Harris has proven he can handle a heavy load of carries while holding on to the football.

He also should have cut back to the right, where there seemed to be an opening.

We have two backs that can both work at every down and if used properly a defense cannot key on one of them being one dimensional by rotation...
Najee is not as quick as Warren Najee is still plenty fast for his 233 lb frame. I will enjoy having both and would like to see some two back sets with them.

This is the type of thread we used to see all the time from 06 on. I doubted Warren would have gotten a fair shot if he made the 53 man roster because that's been Tomlin's M.O. I'm happy to admit being wrong but it still is worrisome to switch to him full time but I'd like to see a 60/40 split until Harris is 100% and still maybe use both at the same time. Niether one is going to do much if the don't start designing the run game better.

If you know anything about Harris and his college football career it was not built on splash but rather a consistent, dependable style of play.

3rd and > 6 - Warren, as he is the better pass protector
3rd and 2 - Harris, as the run or pass option is more of a threat.

Draft position could have something to do with it but not from the Steelers perspective. If you are a DC game planning against us, do you focus more on stopping a #1 pick that has done well for us or a UDFA rookie? JMO>

The Steelers had DeAngelo Williams and LeVeon Bell on the same roster and Tomlin still couldn't figure out how to pair them up in the same back field. It would have been a nightmare for opposing defenses to try and cover both. There would have been options galore including handoffs, pitch backs, check downs and play action passes. This would have occurred with pro bowl Olineman, multi talented WR's, an incredibly reliable TE and a HOF QB. So many offensive play packages to choose from. If he couldn't figure it out back then he sure can't figure it out today.

I thought Tomlin was a HOF coach.... I know this and I agree with what you said, I'm just throwing my thoughts out there since I believe the team has two very good RBs

Mites are small arachnids (eight-legged arthropods). Mites span two large orders of arachnids, the Acariformes and the Parasitiformes, which were historically grouped together in the subclass Acari, but genetic analysis does not show clear evidence of a close relationship. Most mites are tiny, less than 1 mm (0.04 in) in length, and have a simple, unsegmented body plan.
