I respect your opinion, but I have a different outlook about these things than you do. Fumbling punts and dropping passes are made by the players obviously, but i wonder why? These professionals are not expected to be doing these things but are, and I ask myself if there is a continuous development program/process that these guys are/ or aren't getting? Are they not practicing enough of the right things they need to help prevent these miscues? We've seemed to have had multiple years of WRs dropping passes and it isn't going away. Why is that and what has been done to correct? I myself have no clue but wonder if something isn't being done enough to get players ready. This reminds me of a free kick that the other team punted to us after a safety a few years ago and one of our receiving team players acted like it was a regular punt moving away from it and let the other team jump on it for a turnover. Isn't that a sign this player wasn't mentally prepared to play? So, who do you blame, the player who the coach put out there as being the best we haves to receive this "punt", or the coach who doesn't ensure that his player knows what the hell to do on a play like this? Both? JMO>

It was Tom Donahoe not Troy Donahue.

Troy Donahue was a beautiful man such as myself that all the women wanted back in the 1950's as he was the best looking movie actor of his day.

Didn't Butler say he didn't call the defenses? If MT was/is the one, changing DC's really wouldn't matter, would it? Just wondering.

first off they are professional athletes. The onus is on them to do the routine things. A wide receiver catching a ball? That’s on him. We have very limited practice time due to the cba. If a wide receiver is having issues catching he ball he needs to be on the jug machine on his time. Which is what DJ did two years ago. He spent hours everyday on the jugs machine and it worked. Again a professional athlete needs to know the rules of the game. These are grown ass men getting paid millions to play a game. They need to take care of their business. It would be awesome if there were enough hours in the day where coaches can go over every rule and spend hours everyday with a receiver so he catches the ball. Unfortunately that isn’t the case.Coaches can teach routes, blocking, hand placement, the list is endless, but catching the ball? No. That’s on them. They either put in the work or get sat down. I don’t believe for a second the hc, oc, wr coach et al are letting claypool run lazy ass routes in practice. Why is he doing it in game? I can’t answer that question, but he needs to straighten his **** up or sit. Same with diontae put in the work, catch the ball, or sit down.

I haven't see Austin yet, apparently he has 4.3 speed. I'm not sure he is gonna come in and be our savior though.

He played Connie Corleone’s boy toy fiancé in Godfather II. The characters name was Merle Johnson, which was Troy’s real name

Fair enough. But if we have "professional" players not doing routine things on their own, did someone make the right pick? No players are perfect of course but it seems we have a proportionately higher rate of players not doing routine things. JMO>

Typically coaches that get fired are in the early stages of their stint with that organization. Changes like that always hinder progress because you've spent time and capital (both financial and draft) buying into their "system", then you change to someone else that essentially nullifies that work you did the years previous... thus almost starting from scratch again. Tomlin has been here for a long time, a change here wouldn't nullify anything that we've done recently, it would give us a fresh start and potentially a new direction to build towards. We've gone stale. Our team culture has deteriorated and unless Tomlin can be the coach that rights the ship instead of motivates an already stellar cast, then we would actually improve faster by moving on (this goes for Coordinators as well). I wouldn't hate giving Flores a shot (either DC or HC). We are a poorly coached team. That needs to change for us to improve.

Does firing the coach make a difference? Of course! That’s why the Chargers have been so successful all these years!!
    Browns too

Chicago, Detroit, Panthers, and....Well the list goes on. Yes a head coach can lose His ability to help a team/ become stale, but firing one while still on contract usually never helps anything.

That whole muffing punts and kickoffs issue: it is a shame we don't have a seasoned vet on this team with reliable hands. I really think we should have pursued one in FA this past off-season.

Back in the Cowher and early Tonlin days, if we had an issue with a guy muffing kicks we would throw Hines Ward out there for a game just to make sure we don't screw up the kick returns.

We shouldn't have thrown those inexperienced/unproven guys out there.

the first part is factually accurate. Myself and others have mentioned it in these threads. The next part not so much. Just pure speculation on your part. It sounds good, but doesn’t pass any test. Stale? Team culture? Come on man.
