HOF QB Big Ben wasn't untouchable, so why is HOF Coach Tomlin?

I had dinner with Chuck Noll one night

We talked about everything but football

I didn’t want to be one more idiot asking him the same questions

We both have pilots licenses so we talked about places we had gone and the process of learning to fly

Tomlin is only 50 years old. I'm not so sure his best days are way behind him, but it may be time for him to apply those skills elsewhere.

Ask a Cowboys fan. I spoke with one last night and he insisted that they are still going nowhere as long as McCarthy is the coach.

I told the story of Noll speaking to a class I was in at Pitt. This was shortly after he retired. A good bit of the discussion was about things other than football. The man could speak intelligently on so many topics. I would have loved the chance to ask him more about communication and teaching. I always thought the latter was his greatest strength as a coach.

Cowboys are 4-1 with a rookie at QB who won all 4 of his starts. I'd say your Cowboy friend probably thinks that is pure luck but McCarthy definitely has that team going in the right direction.

    I can give a clue....
The Media for some reason never gave Ben his due on the field(same as some fans)....so they thought Tomlin was the reason behind anything good......
The exact opposite in Green Bay.....the Media thought, and still thinks Rodgers has rainbows shooting out of His A$$....therefore.....it had to be His coach holding Him back......,and the moral of this story is.....just because they played a position in football....and now are in the Media, or because they have covered football for a long time ......doesn't make them correct.

I most certainly called for Ben to retire. Was even told the Steelers owe it to him to let him retire on his terms

Cooper Rush is not a rookie. He has been in the league since 2017, though he hasn't played much.

That said, my point was that fans can be irrationally tough on their team's coach.

I stand corrected but this fan has been tough on MT for quite some years now and I don't think it's irrational at all. In my eye's he's completely overrated.

    Love me some Floyd

Tales me back to fond parts of my life

I think a little fuzzy for some reason

I played Dark Side of the Moon over and a over while making countryside road trips with guys who are still my best friends today

    Life is good

The Eclipse version of Comfortably Numb is my favorite

When young people at parties ask me how I am I respond “Comfortably Numb”

They look at me without a clue

I was 6 feet from Gorbachev once but we didn’t talk. That’s not why I was there.

    My favorite band.

Just recently went to see Australian Pink Floyd. They are very good and not that expensive

Hell, I argued that he should be fired in 2018. I'm not saying he should be above criticism. I'm saying that some fans are irrational and unfair about it.

he's not untouchable, he's just had the benefit of having a HOF QB, solid O line, AB, Heath Miller, a stout D for the most part (or he's hid behind them). He's had that more or less since he became coach here. He pretty much doesn't have any of that now so he has to really earn his paycheck. I would guess he'[s got this year and next to start turning things around before there's serious talk of replacement.

Personally IMHO, Chuck Noll was the greatest Steelers coach, he was a no nonsense teacher, detail oriented, he wasn't a "buddy buddy or players type coach" but the players respected him. I always thought Tomlin (and to some degree Cowher) didn't measure up to Noll at all.

My point is he deserves to finish out his contract through 2024, if he doesn't turn it around by then I'm sure Art probably won't keep him around.

That's not what I meant, in their minds they were competing for Lombardi's by keeping Ben until last year.

I'm sure you've seen Brit Floyd. If not you need to.

I've seen Pink Floyd - 3 rivers stadium Stadium, in Atlanta Georgia where Georgia Tech plays football and Arizona Sun Devil Stadium on a full moon night. Seen Roger Waters numerous times as well.

It's the nit-picking I can't stand. Every damn last thing the guy does is under a microscope and is beat to death negatively. I think what he should feel heat about most is the roster and his assistant and position coaching hires. There just isn't enough talent on this team. I think he should be given a chance to retool it and his staff. How long he should get is the million-dollar question. I's think three years, tops.

i think we should give Tomlin more time. He has won 3 playoff games in the last 12 years. I’d say after another 12 if he still only has won 3 playoff games in 24 years his seat should at least be a little warm though.
