Agreed. The time they do get a stop, they need to actually end up with the ball.

Agree, most likely next week vs Marcia

That'll give hom cpl weeks practice time usually how they do it. But

Steve Sims was a good player when he was with the Redskins.
He can go the distance, for sure.

When receiving, it does not pay to return a kickoff in the endzone, so I think returners add little unless they are elite. If I were a coach, when we kickoff I would have a kicker send it down just short of the endzone. Returns are usually short of the 25 and good chance there will be a penalty on return team for block in the back. I think this tactic would yield many net yards over the course of a season.

One thing I know about the kick returnees and punt returners that the Steelers have had these last few years is that no matter what the fans will end up cursing their name some quicker than others. Sims will have some distinguished company that's for sure.

This is huge. If we get Calvin Austin back I could see this team make a real run in the playoffs.

On Austin, I'm excited to see him on the field.....BUT I Was saying that all off season... he had not had ONE snap in stadium yet. So I'll temper my expectations

As for sitting OZ. I'm fine with giving Sims a hat, but it does make you wonder how the Steelers turned av all pro returner into a guy who needs benched inside a month.

The Steelers appear to have laid an egg with FREE AGENTS results so far

    Trubisky... benched

Daniels... has been average but maybe trending up

    OZ... benched

    Cole... I've been pleasantly surprised

Levi Wallace... ok but not what was advertised

Myles Jack... solid play but you can see why JAX went younger and cheaper... but he is still easily the best ILB on the roster

4 of those 6 are not killing us so they are upgrades over what we had. jack has been solid. levi hasn't given up big plays. daniels is pointing up. cole has been solid so far. not a ton of money spent on any of them. would like to see this team at full strength for a few weeks may help these upgrades.

Once he is designated to return they can let him practice for a few weeks before they have to make a roster move

So it's really up to how quick he can get on a moving train and practice time

When kicking it into the endzone there is 99.9999% chance that it will NOT be returned for a TD.

Right. In defense of Myles Jack, it would help him exponentially if 55 at least played like he gave a damn and 41 had more talent.

I don't know what you were expecting from Wallace, but most people knew he wasn't a shutdown CB, why do you think they signed him on the cheap?

I hope Austin is as good as advertised but I still have concerns for a 170lb guy staying healthy in the NFL.

He didn t even make it out of camp and some are seeing him as a savior.

The hope of being a fan, every guy that hasn't played yet is an all pro just waiting for his chance

I'm not concerned about him not making it out of camp because the type of injury he suffered had nothing to do with his size. Foot injuries are more likely the bigger you are, not smaller.

I never said I expected a shut down corner, I said he has been less than advertised

here is what he was supposed to be

A guy who started 52 games in his 4 years in Buffalo

Wallace's coverage numbers across the 2021 season read as follows

    543 cover snaps
    60 targets
    31 catches
    302 yards
    3 touchdowns
    2 interceptions
    61.9 passer rating when targeted

His 0.6 yards per coverage snap was seventh best in the entire NFL last season.

He was sold as a younger cheaper replacement for an aging Joe Haden

What we got was a #4 CB behind Sutton, Spoon, and Maulet

So yes I was not expecting RodvWoodson 2.0 but I was at least expecting Levi Wallace 2021

I have seen reports, I believe, Tribune Review that the Steelers may leave Claypoole in Buffalo. Buffalo supposedly has an interest
in Chase Claypoole. Buffalo is hurting for WR's. I have also seen Claypoole's named in a possible move to Chicago?
Could be interesting come trade deadline.

Same here. I think we could still get that if he is still acclimating.

Interesting. I hope the comp package is good enough if it happens. I honestly have no idea what he can fetch. Based on potential and the fact that he’s still on a rookie deal, 3rd round could be realistic. Based on actual game day performances the past season + 4 games, it would more like a 5th-6th.

I sure expected more from him, be steady, make plays. Tackle, cover your man closely. Is this too much to ask?
