You have to love the Pom Pom wavers here who are clueless how a successful team works. They really think we are in the same ballpark as the chiefs or bills right now. You can get around a bad o line if you are a pass happy team with a top five qb in his prime and a really good offensive coordinator. We proved that in 2008 and 2010. But when you have a not really proven college OC who is poor at best at coordinator and a c quarterback with zero running game, you are doomed to mediocrity. Yes we beat Cincy on the road in week one awesome. We won just like I said we would if we did , the d sacks burrow a lot and gets turnovers. How often we getting five. We beat Buffalo last year in week one too and how bad a watch were we with crappy o line. They almost put Harris in the hospital yesterday. I hope they prove me wrong but 7 wins is likely.

I don't claim to know a thing about doctorin

But I do know of I went to the doctor and he said we have to amputate your head, I would get a second opinion, but if he told me I just need to get my head out of my own ass... and check back in 6 weeks I would be making my follow up appointment

Again. It was just my opinion based on the reportsv we are getting

Adam Schefter just reported minimum 6 weeks, the season if surgery is involved. For what it's worth.

I was not the only one to think it was a hard season to watch since it was our lowest live attendance in decades not including covid year. We we’re blown out numerous times and barely averaged 20 points a game. Great coaching and team culture willed us to a winning season. We were light years from the elite teams and the playoff joke game proved that. Until we get a real o line from front office, than we are doomed for mediocrity we have been in since Big Ben injury. If saying truth is a hack so be it. Do you really think we are an elite afc team? Do some soul searching and put the Pom poms down and you know the answer. At least we got win and I will take it but not likely to be repeated much this season with five turnovers to zero.

You aren't reading what I wrote correctly. I wasn't thrilled with the idea, but I was in pain. I had days when I struggled to walk at all. My problem was that the doctor couldn't definitively tell me surgery was the right call. She recommended it, but it wasn't a no-brainer by any means. Also, time wasn't really a factor. I was going to have to wait a little while whether I went for more opinions or not. That is why I went for more information. It wasn't about avoiding surgery. It was about getting enough information to be as certain as possible that I was making the right decision.

I think that is what Watt may be dealing with now. Perhaps they are telling him he can play, but there are risks. If that is the case, going for more opinions may not be a matter of searching for the answer he wants. It could be a matter of wanting to be sure he makes the right decision.

Good grief how many games will he miss if this injury is diagnosed. I get tired of seeing him on the sideline with street clothes on! Come on TJ baby we need you!!

Lots of speculation out there right now but I’m hearing maybe only 4-6 weeks. At least gives us some hope if we can even play 500 ball until he gets back. Then again with Mitch Canada and the merry band of idiot O Lineman that will be tough. Don’t think the schedule next few weeks is particularly difficult though

I think we need to be careful with statistical analysis here. With respect to the 0.41 WAR, what metrics are being used to determine it for an NFL EDGE? WAR has been used and refined in MLB now for years, but baseball has scads of analytical components that have been tested and generally accepted from which it's derived. Football is much farther behind in this regard - PFF has devised a number of metrics over the past five to ten years, some have gained some traction, others not so much.

That said, WAR is a time-based measure. So we'd need to know what span of time Watt's 0.41 WAR applies to. If a full season, it's basically stating that the Steelers would lose roughly half a game from losing him for the season to a base replacement level player (which for this I'm presuming Reed to be). I'm not saying this is ridiculously low - there a lot of components to a strong defensive unit alone, not to mention the offense and special teams that collaborate to notch a victory - but it doesn't seem "significant" in reflecting the weight of the player, especially in comparison to its baseball counterpart.

Last, and you already called this out in part, you can't make a significant points-allowed analysis between 78 games with Watt versus four games without.

Math aside, we can agree that losing Watt would have a significant impact on the defense. Stating how much in terms of statistical components (wins, points, yards allowed, etc.) would seem to be mostly supposition at this point.

The anti-jinx worked. He won't need surgery. 4-6 weeks. Thank God. We can really enjoy the win now.

Haha... that's what you write to me when I said I agreed with you?

You said if saying the truth is a hack then so be it... and for me to put the pom poms down.... can you please use your 20 years of coaching and diagram up where I was not telling the truth or the pom pom waving?

I said it was a hard season to watch.. so did you... was that not true to both our realities?

I said even with that the Steelers ended up in the playoffs? Was that not true? Did I make that up?

I said they still ended up 2nd in the AFCN.... was that a false statement on my part?

You are the one adding your own slant to the reality of the conversation. You are arguing points that literally no one disagrees with. .

We all want a better oline we all want to be dominant year in and year out. But those teams are truly rare... the 70s Steelers had 6 years and are a dynasty... look at Montana's 49er years of Aikman's Cowboys.... the only one to really do it has been Brady.... everyone else loses playoff games..

The Steelers have made the Playoffs 32 times since 1970, which is the most in the NFL. During this span they made the playoffs 60% of the time, only missing the Playoffs 21 times in 53 seasons.... maybe it's just me but that's a pretty good run

Do I think they are elite? Well they were at least top 7 in the AFC last year.... after that you hope for any given Sunday.

Now go ahead and move the goal posts on the conversation

And for the record... since there seems to be confusion I sign my posts HACK because back in the olden days of the Steeler MB it was proper etiquette to put your name on your posts, it was harder to tell back then who wrote what without it

I chose Steel because you know.. Steelers and Hack as a self deprecating knock on myself as I was a professional comedian for over 20 years

Hence I've never called anyone on the board a Hack but myself, Bouchette and Dulac
