He has to be the no. 3 QB ( after 3 years as Bens backup ) and never get a helmet...No way that'll go over well...

And there would be no way they have Pickett be inactive, Fans would riot...I really hope they can find a trade partner, or I see an ugly ending

I don't believe you can simply deactivate a player without exposing that player to waivers. Of I'm wrong maybe someone can correct me.

What was the scenario when they had Ben, Charlie, and Byron all on the roster?
    1) Ben. 2) Byron 3) Charlie

As long as they bring back Oladokun to run the scout team, all 3 QBs will be able to stay with the offense during practice.

    From 2012
I surmised, in my preview of the team's fourth preseason game, that it could be the last for veteran quarterback Charlie Batch, but it appears this is not the case. Batch will be the No. 3 quarterback in Pittsburgh this year, behind starter Ben Roethlisberger and backup Byron Leftwich; cut, instead, was fourth-stringer Jerrod Johnson.

To keep three quarterbacks on the active roster, the Steelers necessarily had to trim one player from another position, and the sacrificial lamb appears to be the receiving corps.

If they're on the 53, They can be deactivated for the game, and not subject to waivers....I think lol

It will be Trubisky, Rudolph, Pickett. I don't believe they will put a rookie in the number 2 spot to start the season. I also don't believe Kenny will have a problem with that. Fans will be fans.

To do a poor job of answering your question since 2012 the rules changed a lot with Covid. They were even tweaked just this season.

Teams are allowed to only have 48 players active for a game. At least 5 of the players on the 53 man roster need to be inactive.

Pickett will be fine as #3. Roethlisberger was supposed to be #3 behind Maddox and Batch when he was drafted. Steelers would be wise to keep Rudolph.

Yea. I don't get the whole NFL player is going to throw a hissy fit and fans are going to riot. Talk about a bunch of nonsense.

I disagree. I don’t believe there is any way that Pickett is not the backup to Trubisky after his strong pre-season showing. I also believe that Mitch’s leash is much shorter than people think.

If they had a solid Oline then I would agree but with the way they are now Rudolph would be the better option as #2. JMHO.

He may be fine, but he definitely earned the No. 2, if not the No. 1, spot. Why not give him the helmet if he was clearly the better QB? If Mason wants to throw a hissy fit the so be it. He has had plenty of opportunities to show what he can do and he failed to do so

Kenny as #3 just means Mason comes off the bench if Mitch goes down in game.

The rule used to be you could swap QB1 and QB2 as much as you want... but if that emergency QB3 comes into the game then they can not come back

I'm not sure if that's still the rule. It was brought up back in the day when Kordell was officially QB3 but was running as slash. Cowher would list him as a WR to get around that rule

And if Kordell had decided to commit to the WR position Steelers fans would remember him a lot more fondly. He was incredible as a receiver. He was a matchup nightmare to most CBs. Big, strong, fast. I’m telling you, he could have been a great one if he’d set his mind to it and admit that he was never going to be more than a gimmick at the quarterback position.

It wasn’t specifically a QB3 designation, it was if you had a QB3 who was inactive for the game you could bring him in but the other QBs were then out of the game. The rule was for an inactive QB to come be activated for an emergency.

I totally agree. Let's say Trubisky is injured late in the Bengals game and will be out for a few weeks. Can you imagine the intense rage when Rudolph runs out on the field as the starter in the home opener against the Patriots? Talk about an ugly crowd it might rival a European soccer crowd riot. The Steelers absolutely have to name Pickett as the #2 QB.

That was a rule (I believe) that allowed you to not have the 3rd QB count against the active 45. He could only come in if both qbs went down. They did away with that rule several years ago. Anyone active counts against the 45 for that game. Under the new cba there is a similar rule to have am extra OL active..in fact if you follow protocol right you can have 46 or 47 active on game day..they just cannot enter unless injury takes out the other ol

There's zero chance they put Pickett #3. There is a much better chance that he starts game 1 than there is that he is buried behind Mason Rudolph. Pickett has already won the #2 job. Took a run at #1. It will be a lot like Ben's rookie year. Send the placeholder out there until he sucks or gets injured.... then let the kid at it.

They basically already have. Gave him a chance for the job in PS game #2. Won it. Solidified it in PS game #3. The only way he went back to #3 is if he laid the biggest egg in the Lions game and Rudolph balled. Neither happened.

Rudolph has 3 million reasons to keep his mouth shut as the number 3, if it comes to that.

Mason would still be number 2,and Pickett would be brought up.
This way as emergency....Mason is always Your backup. Well that's How I would do it.

While this might be the best option for the first few weeks to see if the line can figure out how to block anyone, the fact is Pickett has earned #2 snaps in practice. You either stunt his development or don't prepare the backup for GameDay.

He would still run the scout team. Really if the Number 1 is actually practicing every day....the backup doesn't get many reps at all. This is not old Ben here anymore . With His day off.
