I think Austin and Gunner make it, unless totally a dud in camo, which we have no heard Austin makes it on potential aline. Gunner has a great return resume and has shown he is more than that and can be a 4th or 5th wr.

If they keep 6 it comes down to Boykin, with his strong PS resume, or Vaughn who has shown far more than enough to be on a nfl roster.

    Leal..no Brainer.

Conner has shown enough diversity, is it enough? Watt, why? But we have asked that fir a couple of years. Warren yes, but some hard heads seem determined to keep snell.

Allen and Mullet, toss up in the numbers game.

My wife is rooting for Boykin just because she likes the name

Vaughn for his kick return ability

    Derek Watt for reasons unknown

Since another poster's wife wants them on the squad just because she likes the name I'm doing it to. I want Gunner since my childhood hero Bob Prince was nicknamed, "The Gunner".

That first game Warren was trying his butt off. I was rooting for him but I don't think he'll make the cut.

Oh hell yeah, I spent my childhood nights with my transistor radio and the Pirates. They actually won back then. Prince and Mike Lange of the Penguins came up with some cool sayings.

"There's a bug lose on the rug" (when a ball was hit into the gap)
"Pull out the plug mama, we got the hoover" (when the Pirates made a double play)

My teeny tiny man cave has a "green weenie" (I think an old girlfriend once used it but that's another story) on top of my "terrible towel".

I think the receivers will be DJ, Pickens, Claypool, Austin, Gunner. If they keep 6 I think it will be either Steve Sims or Cody White.

Derek Watt should be cut, but he won't be. I think Conner is in and Radar is out. I think Allen stays for his ability to cover, something Spillane can not do.

I think Maullet sticks around for his versatility. He, Norwood, and Kazee all make the roster.

Warren makes it and Boykin and Vaughns probably end up on the practice squad.

Maybe wrap it in the terrible towel????? LOL Yeah it was so great being a Pirates fan in the 60s. I begged my mom and dad for a clock radio to put next to my bed so I could listen to the games in my room. I always listened to the late west coast games no matter if there was school or not.. My mom would give me a few bucks and I catch the bus down to old Forbes Field or Three Rivers stadium. They waited for you after the game so you didn't have to worry about getting home. Man I miss those days. I will never live to see the Pirates in another world series. This owner is truly evil.

The way the O-Line is playing, Watt for his blocking ability is almost a given

The Green Weenie from 1966. For the youngsters the purpose was to shake the Green Weenie at the opposing team to bring bad luck on them. The Pirate team that year had Clemente win league MVP and Matty Alou was the batting champ but finished 3 games behind the Koufax and Drysdale Dodgers. No playoffs, divisions or Wild Cards back then, whoever had the best record in the league went to the World Series.

But they only played him a very small per centage of offensive snaps, so his use as a blocker is really not something you can really count on. In fact a 2 te set is likely more effective in this system

"All we need is a bloop and a blast" (Groat with a single and Dick Stuart or Bob Skinner for the HR blast in the bottom of the 9th); "That's a home run in an elevator shaft" (a towering infield pop up); "An alabaster chop" (a hard/high infield hop for a single - e.g. the Bill Virdon chop off of Tony Kubeck's Adam's apple in the 1960 WS); "And you can kiss it goodbye" (obviously a HR). Prince was a classic and no doubt when announcing who he was rooting for. :drinks:

Isn't Marcus Allen currently on IR or is that another Allen I am not aware of? I think they keep Boykin on the 53 and try and stash Vaughn and the smurfs on the PS.

    Austin is a lock
Boykin is cut in favor of Vaughn
    Leal is a lock
    Maulet, probably, but shouldn't
    Gunner is a lock
    Warren absolutely should
    Heyward and Watt most definitely
    Consider Marcus Allen gone

The good thing is that while they have impressed with the limited playing time they have gotten I don't think there is too much attention paid by non Steeler fans. That's why I said I think Boykin makes it because they claimed him off waivers and he is the most likely to get a serious look by teams looking for that 4th receiver who could move up the depth chart. The kind Aaron Rodgers can make a star but others he would still be the 4th or 5th guy in a huddle.

I have no feeling on Allen one way or the other. Yeah he is a Penn State guy who has tried ever since the Steelers signed him but he exists in the tweener area you talked about. Not big enough for a linebacker and not quick enough or talented enough to play safety. He is a downhill thumper if he knows the play but that's too specialized to keep a roster spot for when you have depth issues across the board.

Warren has what The Gunner called "hidden vigorish". I think he makes the 53.

I wouldn't want to be the guy that has the final say on WR's. Other than Austin who has been injured, Boykin, Vaughns and Gunner have all contributed. I really like all three. I'm afraid if they place Vaughns on the PS, he'll get scooped.
