The Jagoffs have released Malcolm Brown. Could the Steelers afford to sign him? He has a good bit of gas left in the tank and could beef up the defensive line nicely.

Imagine how awesome we'd be once we signed every player every other team cut.

But this is the guy didn’t you know? I honestly don’t know how we don’t have one dedicated thread for the “Sign this guy” posts.

You are not taking into consideration, the great improvement these rejects get when they are sprinkled with magic pixy dust of "The Steeler Way".

It wouldn’t work. There’s always going to be some guy who thinks his idea is worthy of its own special thread. Better to just poke fun at em with the hope you can save a couple of them from themselves.

On a team that typically keeps 6 dl on the roster and is likely to keep 7, where does he fit? I mean hell, the Steelers just might surprise us all and cut someone like Alualu, in favor of youth. Not saying they will. If the Steelers make any moves its likely going to be for an ILB.

I'd kick the tires with this guy. Doesn't mean we have to keep him. But 75 tackles in 7 starts is decent.

That makes more sense than another defensive lineman.

Nothing wrong with supposin' but we need to address other areas of the team first.

I see the idea is getting no love here. Brown is 28 and coming off arguably his best season. Alualu is 35 and coming off a broken ankle. Cam is getting long of tooth too. It would not surprise me if he was given a look by the Stillers.

They are ok for depth at Dline I think

    Starters
    Ogunjobi Alualu Heyward

    Depth
    Wormley, Loudermilk, Leal, Adams

They may only keep six of that seven. You also have the two Davis brothers on the current roster.

They already made their veteran D-Line move with Ogunjobi.

I think this is definitely a priority in upcoming drafts however, unless one of the young guys like Loudermilk or Leal takes a big step forward.

Or the great loss of ability camp standouts lose when that magic dust falls off when we cut them.

There is usually something wrong when a team gets rid of a player. Usually. I think the chances of finding a diamond in the rough with these guys is extremely rare (see former 1st rd QBs brought on by the Steelers).

You need to couple the idea with an acceptable logical fallacy like the bulletproof assertion of the wasted roster spot. For example:

Why are Derek Watt or Heyward even on the roster, if the team never uses a fullback? It's a wasted roster spot that could be used to sign Brown to bolster DL depth.

No doubt. Yes there have been those few instances..James Harrison bounced around for a few years and said if he had not made it that last year he was done..made it, injury and the rest is history. Kurt Warner from grocery bagger to nfl hof. Others of course, but very few fir the numbers that get cut.

I do not disagree. You can't disregard a special teams ace, but in a league where special roles are increasingly important you do need "that guy" Derek and Heyward are actually different position players. Does conners skills equate to that guy? H back/3 te and special teams? Limited sample but I think he possibly brings more to the team than Watt. Jmho

Let me be clear here the example I've given does not reflect my own personal opinions on the use of fullback or h-backs in football but rather it will be uttered several times in the coming weeks and a refrain throughout the season. The wasted roster spot is one of my favorite logical fallacies.

I think Heyward is being used more as a TE, than a FB, if he makes the 53 he will have a role he can catch.

I concur from the sole position that having a fb, active for 3 or less plays a game is insanity in my book.

We have to stop thinking about Heyward as a FB or H-Back. He is a Y-TE. He essentially plays the exact same position that Aaron Hernandez did. Hernandez was 6’1” and 245lbs. He really isn’t a whole lot bigger than Heyward. I think we could (and should) see Heyward used in a similar manner that Hernandez was.
