I'm not sure if this has been mentioned on here before but here's something interesting that i found about our HC.

    http://aol.sportingnews.com/nfl/sto...te-coach-players-poll-steelers-bill-belichick

When 103 players from 27 teams were asked which coach, besides their current one, would they most like to play for the overwhelming majority picked MT. Something to think about the next time anyone decides to go Tomlin bashing, that's all.

    It wasn't even close:

    Mike Tomlin, Steelers 31
    Bill Belichick, Patriots 10
    Pete Carroll, Seahawks 6
    Jim Harbaugh, 49ers 6
    Lovie Smith, Bears 6
    John Harbaugh, Ravens 5
    Rex Ryan, Jets 5
    Jeff Fisher, Rams 4
    Tom Coughlin, Giants 3
    Gary Kubiak, Texans 3
    Mike McCarthy, Packers 3
    John Fox, Broncos 2
    Mike Smith, Falcons 2
    Seven coaches received one vote

    Agree freak,

players coach for sure, not necessary the best coach for winning or make game time adjustments or even knowing when to pull a player when he is hurting, like Ben last year against the 49's, Leftwich and Rainey last week. I still think he cost us the game against the ratbirds!

this makes up for him leaving Lefty in the game  if you're injured and still want to be in the game, then Mike is your coach until they carry you out in a body bag

No surprise, he's a great coach. Does he have some areas that need improvement, sure but he's still a great coach, most everyone knows that.

Yeah, like when his QB is hurt and he needs to pull them.

    YEAH!!!
like Hines Ward calling out his quarterback wanting to sit out a big game in baltimore because of a "HEADACHE"

when we play in Denver during the playoffs this year
i bet Tomlin forces Clark to play, just to change our opinion of him.

He can take a step forward towards coach of the year by beating the Browns this weekend!

Well he is my favorite coach in the league right now so I can see why the players would think so....I also think he takes up for his players and doesn't throw them under the bus (see harbaugh of the 49ers)

I like Tomlin but freak may be onto something. There are two types of ineffective managers. Those who are HATED by everybody and those who are LOVED by everybody. I'd say you could say the same about coaching. I know Tomlin gets excited like the fans when the team does something good, but I could do without the chest bumping and over-celebratory stuff we see from Tomlin at times. Did Noll ever do that? Does Belicheck? Parcels?

Anyway, I'm not saying that Tomlin is not a good coach, but some of his flaws have been hidden because of a great DC and a great QB since he's been there.

I think a lot of fans sour on him because he has a gift in the way he talks to the media. If he were only judged on what the team did on the field, he would be much higher rated. To his modern day contemporaries, he has similar stats to Tom Coughlin, Sean Payton, Mike McCarthy, and Mike Shanahan. They are all below Bill Belichick, but above those without championships such as Jeff Fisher, John Fox, Mike Smith, John Hairball, etc. Belichick, BTW, didn't win his 2nd Superbowl until his 9th season as a HC. This is Tomlin's 6th season.

Tom, like Pete Caroll, is the ultimate Players Coach. Players love working for him. We live in a different society now than in the 1960s and I really think you have to have this trait in order to succeed.

As for leaving Leftwich in too long, that might be the case, but Lefty was still making some great throws. He just had 2 which obviously came up too short. Tomlin has the ultimate faith in his players. Sometimes its going to pay off and sometimes it will blow up in his face.

Given Tomlin's age, I don't think he is going anywhere for a very long time.

Come on, Jack, where were you over the summer when there were all the posts about Tomlin being an awful coach because he didn't show any emotion ever?

Being "liked" and being respected are 2 different things..Maybe they should have asked the players that, not the one they want to hang out with

Oh I saw those threads, Thigpen. Tomlin DOES show emotion but I think the issue that some had with him is that he shows emotion like a fan shows emotion. When we do something good he chest bumps and goes through these machinations kind of like I do in my living room. I think the kind of emotion that many of us would like to see more of is that in your face emotion when the special teams screw up, interacting more with the OC and the DC and generally having some input into what's going on DURING the heat of the battle. But then again, that's not really emotion is it? I guess it's just being more vocal and involved like a coach should be and less reactive like a fan is. I like Tomlin and I realize that I judge all coaches, particularly Steeler coaches, in light of one Chuck Noll and that may not be fair.

chaz has some big shoes for anyone to fill. he'd yank bradshaw in a minute when he was playing stupid. no nonsense approach every week. he wouldn't change for anyone. he had one purpose. win baby win and the players loved him for it. they showed it in their play. the G-men are the only team i can think of that have an old style coach like that. they hated coughlin at first, those players were soon gone and these players respect and play at a high level for the man.

Bet you any amount that it would be the same results, Tomlin has respect all around the league and in the media, just not on this board apparently.

Coughlin lost the locker room actually, he then softened his approach and thats when the players accepted him.

:this!: Jack, couldn't agree with you more! Great coaches do not lose games and make game time adjustments, and I like him, but great coach - don't think so, maybe a good coach. Cowher was also a good coach, Chuck Noll was a great coach.
