They've already shot themselves in the foot again this year.

Ravens are 8-2 with 1 AFC loss

Steelers are 6-4 with 4 AFC losses

Even if they get the split and the Ravens somehow manage to lose another game. They still need to hope 2 other AFC teams beat them and they end up 11-5 in order to get the division or hope the Bengals beat them and they end up tied at 12-4 with 2 division losses is the only way. Unless Baltimore falls completly apart.

So they've done it again this year. Placed themselves in a spot to have to win out to have a shot at the division and try to avoid going to Denver if they get in as a wildcard.

Who didn't see this coming when they lost to Denver opening day?

I'll be the first to say I didn't. I didn't see Ben getting a weird injury and our backup having a bad night against a weak Ravens team who barely beat us. There's plenty of games left. The Ravens aren't nearly as good as their record.

Division Titles really don't mean much other than the playoff seedings.

They still have the skins, us, chargers, giants, broncos, and bungals. I see at least 4 losses there, maybe 5.

I see that Chargers game as the most potential loss for the Ratz! Rivers will throw all over that defense with no Ed Reed and two backup cb's

the ravens still have the chargers in SD the broncos the cowboys the giants and us still left to play. i still think we can beat them in baltimore esp. if the rumors of ben being back for it are true. we still have the chargers and the cowboys left but we match up better against them then the ravens do. its tough and we must win in two weeks but it is still possible.

Whoa, slow your roll there lizard. The Rats have SD next week, a team they struggle with, if they lose that and we beat the Browns, we are 1 game back going into our rematch with them. Now if we don't make up any ground next week, then you may be right ;)

Last night was a must win and the Steelers blew it they had a chance to take over 1st place. The defense did their job the offense not so much.

That's just what I'm saying, If they end up tied at 12-4 11-5 based on opponents left they have already lost the tiebreaker for AFC wins/losses unless Baltimore losses to Cincinnati.

And I'll just say it here again, this team does not want to play in Denver without Ryan Clark again against Manning.

No I didn't see this coming.

Hope to god we don't see Denver again.

I think we've had enough of them recently.

I can honestly say that those were the first words out my mouth when the clock hit zeros. I said "This crap is going to bit them in the ass come playoff time and tiebreakers. They'll probably be back in Denver again!"

This is exactly why the losses tothe Raiders and Titans are so devastating.

Do point differentials in a pair of games between division rivals enter into the tie-breaking rules? I mean, if we beat the Ravens in 2 weeks by more than 3 points, would that make a difference, assuming that head-to-head records were relevant?

Look, I know our division title hopes took a hit on Sunday night and, if Ben and AB and Troy were out on the field, I would be royally pissed. Our team has been devastated by injuries to star players. We will do the best we can with our back ups backup and, if not this year, then we WILL be back next year.

I agree with your assessment, they will start their losing streak in san diego sunday, a coast to coast flight, coming off a big emotional game, and flacco cant play well on the road; that said, it only means something if we win a majority of our 6 remaining games, and right now i'm worried about them being flat this sunday and losing to the clowns, plus I dont think ben will be back for another 3 or 4 weeks so we will be playing with bandaids at quarterback for the next 3 or 4 games, it doesnt look too promising for us to run the table...

Even if the Steelers would have won Sunday night they would have still been #2 in the division due to Ravens having a better division record.

They would have been #1 in the division because first tie breaker is head to head.

#1: No, I didn't see this going down this way. But I'm enjoying this season's adventure. And I damned proud of the Steelers' performance, thus far. They are holding down a winning record without many star players. And, yet again, they had to start with a patchwork O-Line that is starting to gel. And I don't even want to start about how bad-ass the defense is becoming...

#2: I want Denver. IN DENVER. Screw all the crap about "we don't want them in their house w/out Clark" Hey, I don't want to play w/out Clark, either. But... as a competitive person, I want to defeat my enemy when my enemy/enemies are at their strongest so that they know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I own them. I think it would make a poignant statement for the Steelers to beat Denver, in Denver.

#3: Appears division leaders in the AFC will be: West) Broncos, South) Texans, East) Patriots, and North) Steelers/Ravens toss-up. One of the AFC wild cards will easily be snatched up by either the Steelers or the Ravens since both teams will have AT LEAST 10 wins and maybe more. Has anyone noticed it's often like this, lately. The Steelers and the Ravens go to the playoffs. It's generally a question of which team takes the division. I can't think of any team, other than the Colts, that might be battling the Steelers for such a good record and threaten the Steelers' wild card chances... I'll have to take a look at standings...

#4: Steelers can't handle any more than 2 more losses if they want a wild card, though. 10-6 may make it tricky with such a weak record against AFC teams. And I agree with the poster who said this is where the Raiders and Titans games are coming back to bite us, in the arse. The Steelers may have to get into the wild card strictly based on better overall record. It won't look good if it comes down to tie-breakers. This is just gut-feel... Like I said... I need to take a closer look at standings and stats for other AFC teams.

But... the Steelers still have a chance. And a chance is all a champion needs! :herewego:
