NFL Breaking News: Ed Reed suspended one game

The NFL suspends the Ravens safety for repeated violations of the rule prohibiting hits to the head and neck area of defenseless players. :applaud:

Ed Reed is past his prime, other than picking up the Wallace fumble and running around with it he was a non factory. Pollard on the other hand was a beast for the Ravens.

he has more int than the entire Steelers secondary and only 2 less than the entire Steelers defense. hes accounted for 5 turnovers. hes not the player he was, but to say hes a non factor is a stretch.

They should make the rules where the player that was hit in the head gets to pick what game the head hitter must sit out

Sorry, I think that is nuts. There is no reason he should be suspended 4 games.

What about Harrison's hit on Cribbs or that other guy who's name I can't spell? Did he deserve 4 games as well? Lets be realistic here, it was a hit many of our guys have made over the years. Slow down on calling for a huge suspension.

Is one game really that bad for his health?
He's pretty beat up, one game off is a benefit for him.

Not so much bad for his health as much as his wealth. It will cost him $423,000 for the one game suspension. I would appeal away as well.

It was not a crucial H2H hit as I have seen some other players in the league make. Maybe repeat offenses caught up to him but still Saunders jumped right up. If he were flopping on the ground like a fish out of water and was clearly injured it would make more sense.

All I can think of is how much the game has changed especially at the safety and CB position. Could you imagine Mel Blount playing in todays sissy league? He'd be suspended every season for about 8 games or more.

The game is way too micromanaged these days. These guys are big boys who make big bucks, They know what they are signed up for.

Sure Roger is looking out for future lawsuits by gold digging family members ala Junior Seau but at what point does the game become too borish and soft? I've seen time and time again where players are too afraid to make a big play thus giving up a huge play to the other team. That's not the way it's supposed to be played either.

I agree with ya here. It appeared to ME a few times that Harrison eased up before making contact with the QB in several games.

Yeah...I mean he didnt lead with his helmet. He led with his shoulder and his helmet hit Manny's. A penalty with the way the rules are now in this league, but no way he should be suspended for four games. Im not even sure he deserves to be suspended at all.

I don't think he should be suspended at all....but then again I didn't think James Harrison should have been suspended either.

That being said...YES he should be suspended.

My biggest problem with this whole thing is the "outrage" I am reading and seeing from the media....where was the outrage when it was Harrison? I heard ESPN puppets repeat exactly what James said when he was suspended....they ducked when they saw me coming.....do you want me going low and hitting guys in the knees....But when James said it...it was...LEARN TO PLAY WITHIN THE RULES.....When its Ed Reed....its...well runners duck...and do you want him to hit him in the knees????

    Thats the real BS

i think the whole H2H hits being flagged is getting out of control. i know there are about 2500 ex players that have filed a claim against the NFL and they are now trying to cover their butts, but at what cost?

they are taking away from the game. if you are running at full speed to hit a WR in the chest and that WR lowers his head which then changes the target the defensive player was aiming at and then they go H2H, why is that on the DB? maybe at some point the WR's need to learn to take a hit and not put their heads down.

if the WR is defenseless than im all for a penalty and even a suspension, but if its a hit that is taking place in the flow of the play and they just happen to hit H2H, i see no reason for there to be a penalty and definetly not a suspension.

so according to the explanation as to why Reed is being suspended (multiple offender), i fully expect Clark to get suspended on his next H2H hit.

Clark was already threatened...and many thought he would be after his shoulder to chest hit that was called H2H
