The Steelers have waived injured Zumwalt and signed LG fort who was just released from the Pats.

Didn't see that coming. LB Fort was claimed off waivers.

Weren't Barr and Kendricks from UCLA as well? So the Vikings get to solid players and the Steelers get project guys that need alot of work.

From what I've read, HoJo is very hot/cold. I would probably go Chickillo. But Garvin should be the 9th LBer and I thought I read they usually only have 9 on the 53.

I just remember Davis and now Zumwalt on our end... Specifically in LB dept.

No big loss, the Steelers have depth at that position. I thought Zumwalt had potential to develop as a ILB/OLB player.

Yes and the St. Paul Star Tribune has been printing fluff all week about Vikings LB's Barr and Kendricks how the second year man(Barr) is out performing what many had thought to see from him and Kendricks is struggling although not on the field but in playing FIFA on a game system against Barr. So I think it is less the school and more the guys the Steelers draft and where they take them.

Barr was a top ten pick and Kendrick's was a early second round pick. Davis was late third and Zumwalt was sixth... The good guys were taken early and the project guys were taken late. That's how the NFL draft works.

Thats true SGS but if I remember correctly many thought Barr was more of a project guy as well, and I know the Minnesota media such as it is really questioned the first pick of the Zimmer era because of how raw many saw Barr as being. I also remember a solid debate on him going in the Draft room section since many thought he would make an ideal Steelers pick.

True, but I would equate that pick similar to Dupree in that regard... He may be a project, but he is a great athlete who is worthy of a first round pick. The upside was there. Nobody really questioned the Dupree pick too hard, and I thought Barr had better tape coming out of school (he was more of a one trick pony than a pure athlete IMO).

I guess my whole point was that the guys they picked were considerably better players (and their skills translated better to the NFL) coming out of school than the two UCLA LBers we took later in the draft. That's why they went early, and that's why they are still in the NFL and the guys we took aren't.

These non-disclosed injuries really make me wonder? I don't think Clifton Geather's injury was revealed either?

Maybe it was one injury too many. A shame, but let's see what Fort can do.

I thought he was waived due to injury? Guess he's not NFL ready.

i'm not even sure why this is a debate..... we waived a project at a position that we're totally stacked at... even if he turned out to be a stud, his opportunities on the field were going to be few and far between

Sometimes they do. Last year they opened the season with 8. Worilds, Shazier, Timmons and J. Jones started. Backed up by Moats, V. Williams, Spence and Garvin.

7 of those 8 are all still here so that leaves a crowded situation. J. Harrison, Dupree, Chickillo, H. Jones and Shayon Green.
UHH! They are not going to cut Dupree and well James is still alive and well. Both Chickillo and H. Jones are not looking bad at all. Green has also done well.

Trying to be realistic here. Odds are both Dupree and Harrison are on the final 53. Unless they keep 9 one of those players from last year will not make it. My guess is it could be Spence, someone figured Garvin would be out and I would put J. Jones in there also. There also is a possibility that one of the 3 youngest players, HoJo, Chick, or Green could be valued too highly to risk PS.

This looks like a 9 year.

Just a casual fan here but from last year the players I absolutely would keep are Timmons, Shazier, V. Williams and Moats. Garvin I liked a lot but he was primarily valuable on ST. So Harrison and a 2015 rd1 pick makes 7. Since there are 12 on the depth chart if they keep 9 two from this group gets it. J. Jones, H. Jones, Chickillo, S. Green.

I usually guess the final 53 pretty good but I doubt it this year. However, there are still 3 good preseason tests left. Posters usually say you can tell a lot after the 3rd preseason game. But since there are 5 games this year maybe the 4th game is the key. We'll see.

I don't think I've seen anything from HoJo or Shayon Green to say they'd displace anyone above them in the depth chart. Yet. That might change if injuries occur.

There is no way in hell they are cutting Jones. It takes OLB normally 3 years to fully get our system and this is year 3.

I go along with that. It's probably a minority opinion though. But Garvin has been coming on and Spence, as I posted earlier, best skills are duplicated by Shazier and V. Williams. It will be interesting to see how Tomlin finalizes the LB situation.

I'll believe it when I see it from Garvin in the regular season. He should be doing well in camp and preseason, been here long enough.

When he shows up in regular season, then hes arrived.
