IMO for what it's worth, Mesko was let go because of his "care-free spirit" more than anything else; I don't think Tomlin can stand that at the moment.

You can say that it's a good thing or a bad thing that Mesko was let go, but I tend to read it that Art-II has "dropped the hammer" so to speak on Tomlin & Colbert. What was 2013, 2014 & 2015 to get this turned around, MAY have just become 2013 & 2014.

Eh. He's played poorly and his position is one of the most expendable/easily replaceable on the roster.

Mesko has been really bad and I wish we still had Butler or Moorman, but I think cutting the punter, the first starter to be cut in this 2-5 season, sends the wrong message. He is almost a scapegoat. Players who are directly responsible for our 2-5, or at least contributed more to it like Mike Adams, Gilbert, Foster, DeCastro....and even players like Ben and Woodley and Timmons, may look at this and think "Golly now we will win for sure now that the bad punter is gone."

In other words, cutting someone like Adams would send a much stronger message to the team that says "we will not tolerate such a poor level of play".

Except Adams is a second round pick in his second year. Cutting him would be incredibly stupid and wasteful.

He is incredibly bad for a second round pick in his second year.

    not to mention
when Mesko shanked his other punt after the block
we shouldn't have been punting anyway,
    BUTT
little ben in big games runs beyond the LOS and throws the ball away when he could have simply ran for the 1st dwn.
back Mesko up more and act like he is supposed to feel comfortable bhind the oline that ben plays behind.

    Agree.
He had a bad game, but he's not incredibly bad.

I'll go out on a limb and make a prediction ...
another couple of losses, and Tomlin will cut another player.

    found this

I said Mesko. I see it as a perfect microcosm of the entire season so far - poor talent evaluation and coaching/management decisions leading to poor execution, with the end result being that this team just seems to be adrift with no direction and no land in sight. They cut a mediocre but serviceable punter for no real reason, and replaced him with more of the same, and after an abysmal start to the season, someone in the front office seems to think that getting yet another punter is somehow a priority when we have glaring weaknesses on the offensive line, the linebacking corps and the secondary.

very true.. Cheers TTF.. It is expendable and its a start in the right direction. Wish we had more money to fix the glaring flaws in this team.. But oh well such is life

We have the best in the business relative to the coaching staff. RB coach (Kirby is top notch) OL Coach... ( good but he cant make a purse out of a sows ear) Dick Lebeau ( nothing can be said that has not already been said about DL and the HOF)
Head coach Tomlin ( he is a good players coach) I am not going to throw Tomlin under the bus because of players inability to execute. Last but not least we have an OC that people love to hate. In mind it comes down to execution and game planning. What I am seeing is not at all a poor coaching job but bottom line a really really bad team. AB missing catches. Heath Miller missing catches ( something you rarely see) and no offensive line. Oh and Carnell Lake. I dont necessarily think he is doing a great job of coaching the secondary. They seem weak and pedestrian.. Would have thought Carnell could make a differnce.

I think that is the point.. Fans obsess about coaching and it comes down to Ben being Ben.. he never listens to a coach. He might have a love like he did with BA but at the end of the day he was doing precisely what he wanted to do.

Brady and Bellicheat literally sit down and go over game film. I don' think has ever done that or will with any coordinators since came to the Burgh

Ben has a gunslinger mentality likened to that of Favre. Instead of taking what's is given, 90% of the time they force their actions. Had Favre ran for the first down in the 4th against the Saints a few years back, he probably beats Manning in the Super Bowl. Same of Ben, if he runs... It's a first down and hope stays alive. Instead of taking what is given, you reap what you sow... Good and bad.

Ben is no different, and neither is anyone else that has over confidence in their DNA. Produces great moments, and delivers fist shakes equally.

9 out of 10 times they would elect to take another route in retrospect, why it doesn't seem to transfer from week to week and season to season is anyone's guess... Must be how they're wired and no coach can fix or plan against that.

I think the thing is for me that Ben looks different this season. It's almost like on that play he went to run, then thought better of it, then tried to pass, all by which time he had virtually reached the first down marker anyway...

We know he's at his best when it's extending the play, sandlot football. But he's become considerably less instinctive than in the past. Whether that's age - Christ, the number of sacks he's taken you wouldn't be surprised if he's slowed a little - or whether it's him over-thinking... who knows.

I'm glad your the one that pointed out how Ben provides such a fine example for other players to follow when it comes to doing what the coaches want.

Make it good, I might be forced to use your defense in the future. :lolol:

Had me until that point. They cut Mesko for no real reason? How inconsistent can a punter be before they bring in his replacement? It was a position that could be immediately upgraded for basically nothing.

Perhaps wrongly, but I read that meaning the inital cutting of Butler and replacing him with Meskso just prior to the start of the season while ignoring other areas of need and then turning around and replacing Mesko with yet another punter.

Ahh, yup, I think I misread that. Thanks.

To say they cut Butler for no real reason is conjecture nonetheless. Though, I can't argue that the revolving punter door doesn't make you scratch your head a little.
