They competed and scored more than our average with Kenny

Was never a fan of TA or even Keith Butler but this thread changed my mind. Good arguments given.

With the development of the 3 rookies and the injury bug to the ILB and the poor offense I should not even go there. What drives me nuts is that some of these QBs are below average and still seem to have a decent game this year. I guess 20 or less points given up by a defense is respectable in modern offense friendly rules football.

With Coach D!ck...I loved how he would bring crazy pressure early on rookies or even a Carson Palmer where he would psychologically feel rushed in the fourth quarter even when the rushers did not get there.

One thing that used to drive me nuts is by watching game film you would see many times the QB get blitzed on one side with pressure but he would throw to that same side because the CB gave his large cushion to keep everything in front if the blitz doesn't get there.

The most important statistic is point allowed

The Steelers finished the season 6th in that category

Considering injuries and the fact our offense was poor and the opposition therefore had a higher time of possession it would appear Teryl Austin did exceptionally well

I hope he will be much better that Butler in the playoffs!

May I ask what prompted you to resurrect a thread from Dec 3? Just curious... no ill intention.

Local Pittsburgh news had a segment on the Steelers and listed the rating for points allowed which surprised me

So I confirmed it with a short search

And rather than starting a new post I searched for a related one

If the D gives up fewer than 40 points he’ll be better than Butler.

Austin's contract is up after this season. I'm sure they will be other teams knocking down his door to have him

Highest paid defense in the league I believe.

If Tomlin steps down they all go...

Maybe expand the amount of coaches on offence and defense, take some of the responsibilities away from OC / DC and let them do what they are paid to do. Then make an assessment

With all the injuries we have had on defense, they seem to come up with a big play.
When needed. I say keep him.
