Wow! I didn't know that after losing one game the season was lost.

We shall see... Does reeling himself in lead to more holding on to the ball too long? Is AB gonna get his feelings hurt if he mixes it up more?

I think his zeroing in on AB can be detrimental at times but I'm more Leary of his heave ho mentality on short distances where moving the sticks really means something. We shall see.

Do we as fans fault Ben if he zeroes in on AB in a 3rd and 4 situation?

    I don't.

IMO, AB should see a minimum of 12 targets a game. He is playing the position of WR right now just about as good as anybody in the history of the NFL.

I agree. To a point. On 3rd and 4 AB should often be Ben's first read, but if he's not open find someone who is. More often than not there will be. With all the capable receivers we have, Ben needs to take advantage of mismatches in coverage. Like he said, make the best possible play, not get it to the best possible player.

If it keeps us 27th in the league on 3rd down then yeah.....don't care who he throws to...move the sticks.

Going back to the Christmas game against Baltimore last year, ben had no real business throwing that ball to AB. But AB made an all time memorable play.

Now I never went back to see if anyone else was open on that play,,but sometimes you just gotta trust that AB Will make a play.

If AB is running a 15 yard pattern, and drawing double coverage on 3rd and 4, then he probably shouldn't be the read. This is pretty much exactly what happened on one of our drive-killing 3rd down failures in the 4th quarter.

AB will get his looks without forcing the ball in low probability situations.

I think Ben may have just watched the same 4th quarter tape from Sunday that I watched last night. It IS on him that we couldn't get one more measly field goal try in the 4th quarter. Yes, a lot of other players messed up at other points in the game, but it's the franchise QBs job to get it done in the situations we were in during the 4th quarter, and he bleeped it up.

Agreed. Can't figure out how a veteran QB in the league took so long to figure this out.....kinda mind boggling and seems very stubborn on his part. Should be a in game adjustment to how the D is playing and adapt....on a side note after watching some tape on Bell, he is very strangely reluctant to bounce anything outside even though there were huge gains for the taking....even that toss they gave him near the goal line he made a B line back to the inside....weird. Thoughts? Trying to prevent injury or does he know the burst isn't there? I really think Conner should be used as a change of pace because defenses are just waiting on Bell and that would make Conner's style harder to defend. It would keep the D totally off balance and could really help our running game......but we know" til the wheels fall off Tomlin "isn't gonna do it....

True, but going forward, if Ben takes what the D is giving instead of trying to force the ball, then maybe we don't find ourselves needing an all time memorable play. While not as fun to watch, I'd rather have a two td lead with two minutes to go in the fourth and watch Ben take a knee in victory formation.

That we can agree on. I despise deep throws on 3rd and short.

When he's doing it to the detriment of the team we do. Which exactly what's been done so far this season and in games last year. On more than one occasion last week Ben ignored the open receiver and forced the ball to brown. The end result being a stalled drive. Individual accomplishments are great, but it's a team sport. One of the things that makes the patriots so good is their team first attitude.

I saw this article. Knowing he is doing it and being able to break old habits is two different things.

Take the what the defense gives you and then take the occasional shot down field that is more likely to be there when you set it up by finding the open guys underneath.

I'd like to see some of that rare Todd Haley dink and dunk that we get a glimpse of every now and then.

Seriously, if I could take Alex Smith and the Ben burger and mash em up I would in a heart beat!
Alex's mobility combined with Ben's pocket awareness, size and heroics... Ben's arm strength with Alex's brain... And Ben's balls to situationally override the governor switch in Alex's brain to limit overuse of safe ball tactics... I'd do it in a heart beat. And if Ben hangs em up this year, I'd be okay with A smith being a bandaid we need to get the next hero prepped

If Ben continued to play like he has been playing then that 1 loss could have a 0 behind it real quick
