I’m an engineer and also happen to be a licensed pilot

On day sitting over the wheels as we were pushed back the left wheel bearing was going klunk klink klunk

As the flight attendant walked by I politely pointed it out to het

She said “oh that’s nothing” and started to walk away

I loudly said “that is a bad wheel bearing”

she told me to be quiet and at that point the rest of the passengers told her bull ****

She made the captain come back and talk to me and listen

Then he said he wasn’t flying this plane and we went back to the gate

Harvin smelled KC BBQ from 30,000ft and forced the pilot to land

It wasn’t an emergency. We purposely landed to tell the Chiefs we are coming for their title

Only if you are really afraid of flying. These aircraft can fly on one engine for a pretty long time. They lost oil pressure so it is necessary for them to divert to the nearest airport which is the appropriate thing to do in the situation to prevent further damage to the turbine. I can see why people freak out though.

That would be scarier than a loss of oil pressure in one of the engines.

More than people think. I used to build jet engines for a major airline but to the general public we were just a nuisance that’s why I switched careers after 6 layoffs.

I flew back from Vegas sitting next to two women and when we landed my wife apologized on my behalf for talking to them the majority of the flight. They told her that I made their flight much better and seemed quicker cause of the conversation the entire time and no need to apologize. I told the wife that there are still some people who care to listen to me even if she isn’t one of them.:hehehe:

That is scary. We take it for granted how routine flights are anymore. I had two incidents on flights.
    1) I was on a flight landing at Harrisburg airport. We are descending and I can see the pavement of the runway out the window when the plane made an abrupt upward move taking us back up and practically doing a flyby of the tower. First thought I had was the landing gear malfunctioned. Turns out there was a smaller plane sitting on the runway which was supposed to have taken off before we got there. The pilot had to pull up to avoid a collision.
    2) I boarded a flight out of Pittsburgh and it had a faulty engine start on the right side engine. In my mind I had confidence in the mechanics fixing the engine (knowing it’s not like a fan belt “good enough” to get you to the next town). After a second faulty start I’m now wanting off the plane. Believe it or not there were passengers complaining “This is ridiculous! Let’s go already!” I said to the guy across the aisle front me: “Are you nuts! Are you not listening to what they are saying!” To my relief the flight was cancelled after the third faulty engine start.

My ex was on a flight that very abruptly did a nosedive. Turned out there was another plane within a threshold distance and altitude, so an automatic safety thing engaged (her plane went quickly down, the other one went quickly up).

The TCAS (Traffic Collision Avoidance System) takes over both planes and communicates to take them in different directions. It comes with a warning in the cockpit and the pilots really have to do nothing except possibly take a drug test upon arrival to the gate.

The only thing that bothers Me about flying is that My life is in someone else's hands, and I don't even know them.

Wow, that's quite a story. I'm gonna guess you never found out if you were right about the bad ball bearing. Holy cow.

They stuck us on a different plane and took away the one we were on

A wheel bearing is about the only thing moving with the tire rotation that I can think of

That and the pilot proudly says we are cruising at 42000 feet and the temperature outside is minus 90

A good story about loyal Steeler fans:

I was flying a flight Pittsburgh to Phoenix with none other than.....Ben Roethlisberger onboard (He was going to court in Reno).

When the plane got up to altitude and the seat belt sign was turned off, ......All 150 people got up and got steeler stuff out of their carry ons and stood in line to get Ben to autograph. Terrible towels, T shirts, hats, you name it.

As I watched this, it occurred to me that no one knew Ben was on the flight. So all these people must travel with all this Steeler bling with them all the time, everywhere.

We're a loyal bunch, us Steeler fans. We love our team.

Crossed my mind when I first saw this story. Imagine if we lost our beloved Steelers players. Then I thought had that ever happened and I think there was a soccer team that went down in the mountains, made a movie out of it I think where they had to eat the dead to survive.

But interesting the NFL has a whole contingency plan for this. I’m sure baseball, basketball and hockey all do as well.

Not sure if anyone posted this part of the story or not, but the experience was stinky for some. I'm not sure, being a grown man, heading for a plane ride across the country, I would do sans a shower. That is pretty gross, man.

While no one made a terrible mess during the scare, Heyward mentioned that several players didn't shower before boarding the team flight. That left the back of the plane smelling not so fresh. No names were given, however, so everyone involved can presumably move on.
