That list is void with a cheater at #1. I love how Belicheat is labeled so football knowledgeable but he's the GM and why do they suck at drafting? Why can't he evaluate who's going to be good at the next level? Because it's the only thing you can't cheat at.

Belichek's position does not surprise me. Tom Landry ahead of Walsh? Intriguing.

You can't put Bellicheat into the top 5. He's been called a cheater so much that I think it's lost the impact of what he actually did. Knowing the plays being called by your opponent is about as much of an advantage as you can get. Ask one coach how many SB's they'd win if they knew what the opponent was going to do. He should have been banned from the NFL for life.

Not having a guy in the top 5 of all time doesn't mean he gets no respect. Perhaps he's the 6th best of all time, you don't think that's respect?

I personally agree with Belichek at #1, but I know most won't

All the more reason I said I am not surprised by Gil's ratings. Then again.. he was the VP for the Cowboys in the 70s. That in itself can tell you at least something.

No, actually, it tells me nothing. I listen to Gil Brandt a lot on SiriusXM and I have never noticed any hint of bias in what he has to say. Just because he may have a soft spot for the Cowboys due to his employment with them 40 years ago doesn't mean he can't be impartial when it comes to his ranking of players. I'm a Steelers fan, but it doesn't mean I'm going to automatically rank Ben as the best QB in the league.

Only one I dont have a problem being ahead of Noll is Lombardi.

Noll should be no lower than 2.

He should not.. but to Gil.. he is.

Case in point Blast.. it is his opinion... and it is not the only one that has proven head-schratching.

Would like to see his placement of Noll and reasoning. Because as it stands, it reeks of sour grapes.

Yeah! At least Noll didn't just coast along, winning with Bill Austin's players.

No what's laughable is that coach Knoll is not in the top spot. 4 superbowls and I can't even count how many hall of famers that he drafted

Noll won't get his proper respect because he had 9 Hall Of Famers on those SB teams, Landry was a innovative HC even though he lost to Noll twice in the SB.

I suppose for me it's not so much about caring what we thinks (though Brandt often speaks a lot of sense), but rather what the reasoning might be for leaving Noll lower down the list. I don't think it's about bias, and Brandt is hugely knowledgeable - so trying to suss out what other reasons there may be for not having Noll higher are interesting to consider.

    Not for too long, mind.

I'm gonna use the same argument people use against Tomlin (with Roethlisberger) around here. Let's see how Belichick does without Brady for a few years before he's annointed the best. I think the mid-late 80's hurt Noll in the long run. There were some really bad seasons (especially '88: 5-11) during that stretch.

Well.. for Belichek, that day is fast approaching. Father time will catch up to Tom eventually. He always wins.

This list was void when I didn't see my own name in the top 5. I can arm chair coach with the best of them!

I think what gets lost some times is these 9 guys went to the HOF because of Noll. And they will be the first to say that. Noll was a teacher and a philosopher. He made players great.

Lombardi has a 3-1 W-L record. Nobody else is close. Other guys are all hovering around 2-1.

Don't you think that if Noll had ridden off in to the sunset after SB 14 that his legacy would be much more shiny? I'm talking about in the eyes of outsiders? I mean Bill Walsh rode off in to the sunset after winning 3 and he's thought of as maybe the greatest football mind of all time. Do you think the 80's hurt Noll's legacy? Honestly I think it's quite ridiculous that people would think Noll could keep up the 70's dominance for another decade but that's just how people are.
