Would you want Munchak to be the Steelers HC?

I think a move to OC first as stated would be very nice......Tomlin needs to get Colbert to scrap that BPA crap....We have a serious need and we need to be aggressive to fix it....We need multiple picks or better potential talent....

:roflmao:Before I read your last sentence I was getting ready to type "Todd Haley will be the next HC of the Steelers".

As for Munchak, I believe he would be a tremendous HC in Pittsburgh. He's a typical blue collar guy and seems to be a really smart guy. I think he's done a tremendous job with the offensive line, one of the few units that has improved appreciably the last couple of years. You can also look at what's happened in Tennessee since he's been gone. Tennessee had some success with Munchak and they are a train wreck now that he's gone. He did a decent job while he was there and they seemed to be trending in the right direction. If that were to happen, I'd be all for it. Unfortunately, I believe he (and Todd Haley) will be on several teams' lists as a head coaching candidate during the off-season and one, if not both, of them could be gone as soon as next season.

Tomlin already has 2 former HCs in his ear now, Haley and Munchak. It'd be interesting to know how he deals with input from his asst coaches. Is he on a power trip or does he take input on situations that arise?

Just throwing this out, RB Chris Johnson started in all but one game from 2011-13. He had 1047, 1243 and 1077 yards in those years. Doesn't seem like much. Not sure how he'd do as an OC. Of course I don't know how the line was playing, who his OC was, were Ds stacking the box all year, things like that. But as HC, you think he'd be the one to want to establish the run game. CJ2K's numbers seem pedestrian for starting all but one game. I didn't pay much attention to Tenn. to remember the circumstances.

They could give him the asst HC title like they did Grimm, unless they think Tomlin would file a hurt feelings report.

I can't see why. DL coach John Mitchell has been the assistant head coach for a while.

Mitch was on the Fan this morning coincidentally, and he was so much less hardass than usual. I love listening to his interviews because of how candid he is, but it was refreshing.

I didn't know he had that title. Must have missed that.

He definitely seems like a task master, but it is paying off with Heyward and Tuitt's play. I really expected a lot more out of McCullers this season, sometimes I don't remember seeing him all game except the few goal line stands. I hope he continues to develop.

Probably very little. It's not their job.

Some coaches are not meant to be HC. Munch would
be one of them. Be the best position coach you can be.
    And you will be rewarded.

As a head coach you are only as good as the personnel you have. You can scheme to cover up things to a point but in the NFL if you have below the line talent you will finish below .500 in most cases, no matter who is coaching. The only caveat is if you have an all-time great QB, like Rodgers, Brady, younger Peyton or even Big Ben.

Look at Belichek in Cleveland, Carroll in New England as prime examples. I have no idea if Munch would be a good head coach or not but to completely write him off because of Tennessee just because of record is not showing the entire picture. Maybe he has no desire to run the show again after what he went through in Tennessee. But I think he would succeed in Pittsburgh much the same way the previous HC's have. They were allowed time to learn from their mistakes and were not subjected to knee jerk reactions like other franchises. When I look at the Browns it is no wonder they can't get any traction. Every two or three years they are changing HC, front office etc. That ruins a franchise very quickly.

It's beyond unfair to judge Munch based on what happened in Tenn. Bud Adams was the owner of that team. That's all that really needs to be said. Bud Adams made a lot of decisions as an owner and micromanaged like crazy. He is easily one of the worst owners of all time. I hate to talk ill of the dead, but he's no less crazy than Jerry Jones or Al Davis. It's impossible to build a winning team when you have a guy like Bud Adams making horrible decisions that destroy a team.

Seriously, just look at the 93 oilers. Do some reading on that team. It's likely the most dysfunctional team in NFL history and Bud Adams was 100% responsible for everything that happened there.

I don't know if Munch would be a good head coach or not, but I'm optimistic. I want a tactician as a coach, not a fly by the seat of his pants guy like Tomlin. We have far too much talent on this team to continue to make the stupid mistakes we do. We're been one of the dumbest, most mistaken prone teams in the league since Tomlin took over, and it's been the same mistakes year after year. We simply don't correct our mistakes and Tomlin can't coach guys up. He admittedly isn't a big scheme guy, he simply lines them up and hopes they can beat their man. That's fine in baseball, but football isn't that simple. Tomlin is far too simple of a man and he's destroying our chances of getting another SB before Ben's career is over.

I'd actually argue that baseball isn't like that either. There are all kinds of little things that can factor into a given game situation; that's largely what gave birth to the sabermetric era.

That said, I agree on Tomlin. All teams have talent strengths and weaknesses; the key is getting the most out of them. I think he's had sufficient enough talent to notch more wins than he's gotten the past few years. So while I understand that 'he's never had a losing season', that doesn't resonate all that much with me (I know, I'm spoiled).

I want to say Tomlin is our coach and I root for him to succeed however if you told me right now I could have my choice of Tomlin or Munch....I am taking Munch and showing Mike the door. I feel like Munch fits the Steeler HC mold. He is tough hard nose player/coach, what he did in Tenn is bs cause what talent did he have, and what support from ownership did he have? Look at todays HC'S they get a job with below average teams and they expext a one year turn around and if they don't do it they are gone. You can't keep changing a HC every other year and expect to get better...the Clown and Titians come to mind. What ever happened to a 5 year plan, but anyways that is getting off topic.

MT has been handed a very good team, he won a SB with them and have gone backwards with it. Our window is getting smaller and smaller, franchise qb's are hard to find(as we all know) and Ben is getting to the end, :-( ! I feel and this is jmo MT has been given all the opportunity when have not performed very well. We lose big games when we shouldn't, we play down to the competition, we lose home games under MT. We use to have a very good home field advantage and now I don't het that feel anymore.

Of course this is all fun to talk about but as we all know the Steelers don't let coaches go. MT is our coach and I hope he changes things and we get #7........
