I think that there are so many individual variables wrapped up in the "coaching" discussion. Many things get assigned to coaching that may not have anything to do with the head coach of an NFL football team. So I thought it might be fun to isolate one of them and discuss it.

It is January of 2021. The dust has settled on the 2020 season. Ben came back from injury. The team made a run and serious flaws were revealed. What would you have done?

Me? I would have put everyone and anything on the block. I would have actively shopped Watt, Heyward, Minkah, Tuitt, Juju, Diontae Johnson. Pretty much anyone and everyone. I would have totally torn it down and rebuilt for the future. Strip mined the roster for 2021 and 2022 draft picks to get a QB. Then figure the rest out later.

In other words, are you in favor of the field the most competitive team every season philosophy of NFL roster construction; or do you prefer the total rebuild every 3-5 years as your roster gets too expensive and old(er)?

Personally, no matter who the owner, GM, or coaches are, I do whatever wins the most games I can every season. Nobody knows what the future holds, or if You do all the tearing down, and trading that You get a good Qb, or other players.
I personally don't want 3 to 4 losing seasons just for one , or two playoff win, and do it all over again.
Example: Jets go to two AFC Championships, and think, maybe we get a better HC, haven't done anything since.
Jacksonville goes to the AFC Championship, and thinks, maybe if we get a different Qb, and HC we will be right back, nothing since, maybe, maybe this is their year, but nothing they have done has suggested they will continue anything past this year.
My favorite Example is the Giants, blue blood team , rich in NFL history go to Two SBs, and think, maybe we fire the HCs, and make some changes to modern times, and we will be right back, and now have 10 losing seasons since, are are still looking for the chance.

How many consecutive losing seasons have Steelers experienced since Noll was coach, Franco Harris was taken in the '72 draft and Steelers franchise became a winner after the immaculate reception? Answer: only twice... and both times were for only 2 seasons: '85-86 (Noll) & '98-99. (Cowher)

You act like Steelers will wallow in losing seasons if they have a bad season like in 2003. This is complete and utter bullsh!t of the highest order. A good top 10 or even top 5 draft pick would benefit the Steelers frachise for many years. And Steelers would rebound like they always do.

Khan is not the problem. Art Rooney is not the problem. The problem is the HC.

You act like magic is involved. Just because Noll, Cowher, and Tomlin did something mean for sure the next regime will do the same.
I'm totally sure the Giants thought the same thing, and yet 10 losing seasons since.

I don't live in my fears of a new head coach. Steelers have needed a new HC for almost a decade. Time for a change.

I prefer the 'try to stay competitive and relevant' each and every season. Rebuild the team to support a rookie QB, ie OL/run game/defense. Then add your franchise QB and receiving weapons.
When we drafted Ben, we had the team.

    Good thread

I had make a thread about this during the 2022 season...The steelers need a rebuilding big time if they want to become a true contender once again and also better odds to have a true franchise QB.The best thing who happen to the steelers in the 2000s was the 2003 season when they were a 6-10 team....They had Ben because of that and without that they would not have the success they had from 2004 to 2010
