They play plenty in practice and thats what Bell needs to be on the same page as his teammates. Practice also helps get him into football shape.

Believe me, I argued last camp/preseason that he didn't need it. How he played those first 4 games changed my opinion. New information, new opinion.

You're basically arguing great players don't need to practice. Bell could just lube up strippers all week and show up on Sunday and be great. Screaming like Santonio Holmes, thats how you be great, thats how you be great. :lolol:

I really don't mean it like that blast, I believe in practice and agree with you that is how you stay great. Where my problem is with this is the fact we have no idea what Bell does or don't do to stay in shape. Also I am a big believer in these guys being pro's they just don't lose it like that sitting out 4 weeks of camp. We are not talking high school kids we are talking pro athletes who train all year. I know training is not the same as playing I am just saying a guy of Bell's skill will be fine, jmo. Do I want him here hell yeah but it is not the end of the world to me that he isn't, now it does bother me more cause we have a new offense kinda. :smiley1:

It also took him 30 carries to get 87 yards.

27 and vs one of the best run D's in the league 5 teams ran for more than 100 yds vs them and we were one of them with Bell leading the way with 27 attempts for 87 yds. Not bad for being rusty imo.

It kills me that I was gone for several months and the same crap is being talked about. What is next another thread about JH92?????

We have no control over the Bell situation but since the front office is pretty good at what they do I have faith they did the right thing. I am more worried about the run for #7 than worry about one of the best players in the game not being here. :smiley1:

Does anyone get the sense that nobody cares that he is holding out this year? Very little talk about him.

Is this because we saw it last year and we assume he will be available for the Opener. He may have a little rust but he will come around to another Pro Bowl type season.

Or are more of us becoming a little more optimistic as Conner as the future back?

Personally I’m pretty much over it since I now now we’re just going to use him up and let him walk.

It does seem like no one cares. Its almost like he doesnt even play here anymore. Even the blog sites barely mention Bell.

As long as he can stay healthy, I am very optimistic about Conner.

I like Conner but his running style really worries me. I think it leaves him very vulnerable to injuries but I do wish him the best.

As for Bell, I just don't care anymore. I doubt he will have much of an impact the first couple games just like last season and that hurts the team. That ship has sailed for me. I wish we could have made a decent trade for him.

the bitter in me wants bell to have a terrible season and when he walks he gets no offers lol, but the steeler fan in me wants him to have a 2k yard 15 td season with SB mvp honors.

The D will be adequate at best. We need all hands on deck on offense to have a good season.

Nope. Run the wheels off of him. 14mil guaranteed... try to make him earn it. This is a contract year for Bell. If he has a huge year it could mean millions in the open market. There’s plenty of motivation for him to perform.

It does zero good to bench him to make a point. As far as we’re concerned he’s as good as gone next year so the point would ring hollow. We play to win games and having Bell over Conner/Ridley helps us win games.

I agree Bench him as long as Conner is doing well and the Team is stacking wins. As a Coach F the money the office paid you,I run a team and as such the guy who was in camp and worked to be the starter keeps starting until he fails . As long as Conner is above the line and we are winning then Bell should not sniff a start IMO.

I'd only bench him if it meant we didn't have to pay him the money, but that's not the case unfortunately. Also, anyone else worried about Bell not playing hard this year in order to prevent himself from getting hurt and losing contract money? We have a hard enough time getting short yardage, the last thing we need a star running back who is playing not to get hurt instead of playing to win.

No. Just the opposite, he's playing for a big contract, wants to put up big numbers. He's in the same exact boat as last year and he had a great season.

A bunch of FF drafts have him being taken #1 overall so apparently the pundits out there think that the Steelers will probably run the wheels off him this year.

I'm not sure I understand the hostility toward Bell. He is simply doing what he can under the current rules to try to make the most money he can. Since he is likely destroying his body and possibly mind by playing, I don't begrudge him trying to get everything he can. Just like I don't begrudge the Steelers for standing firm on their principles and not giving him what he wants. Both sides did what they thought was right and I can't honestly say I know better than either side. I hope Bell has a great year and helps the Steelers win the Super Bowl. I'll remember him fondly when some other team gives him too much money.

The Steelers made him an extremely fair offer considering his injury and off the field background. He would have been set for life but apparently that isn't good enough. He could have returned here and made additional money just in endorsements and other offerings that would have come his way well after his football career ended if he strategically set himself up for it.

I'm sure he feels he can make more than that though and certainly his agent does too.

How much does one need though? $70,000,000 is a very big number to live on in Pittsburgh. Maybe he'll end up in San Francisco where that is not so much money after all.

I absolutely get the fan hostility towards him but I'm sure he has his prerogatives. I mean, it's not cheap to make it rain in Strip clubs after all.
