I think Niners won all 5 with a franchise QB. I always consider Steve Young a franchise QB. I know they didn't draft him but he spent over 10 years with them. As for the Eagles. I'd say they won with the best journeyman QB to win a SB.

I meant their more recent runs with Garropolo and Purdy. I know they didn’t win the SB but they got very close

It’s very hard to do however

Saquan Barkley is having a hell of a year. It seems he will fall short of Dickerson’s record, but still quite a performance.

Not sure if Eagles have a meaningless game next week. Wonder if he had a realistic chance to break it and the game was meaningless the Eagles would give him the chance?? If that happened they'd burn down the city;)

He'll break it next week against the Giants, he only needs 102 yards.

We had that with Ben from 2010 to at least his injury in 2019. How did that turn out? Good regular season records, division titles, good playoff positioning more often than not, but mostly flops in the playoffs.

takes more than a star franchise Qb.

KC Oline is nearly as bad this year, specifically their tackles, but Mahomes has the ball out so quick it barely matters, and he is unbelievably efficient. He would absolutely transform the Steelers if he was their QB

I do agree the Oline is a big issue though

I didn’t seem to notice that the Vikings and Lions each had 13 wins. I agree, Philly won’t be sitting starters because they will still play for seeding.

    yes to the OP,

The Steelers, like every team in the NFL, need a franchise QB to be more than good. Simply out, it’s next to impossible to make a championship run without a franchise QB because you will have to beat 2-3 teams with franchise QB’s.

As to overall talent level, the Steelers haven’t drafted in the top 15 since??? Was it Big Ben?
We are trying to build a championship team with the number 20-26 draft pick every year, and without a franchise QB. IT IS NOT HAPPENING.

I’m like Mark Antony so I will not praise Tomlin. But I am also not going to bash him when he does not have anywhere near the level of talent as the Ravens, Chefs or Eagles. No coach would, IMO, do demonstrably better with the rosters the Steelers have had for the past 5 seasons.
We need to loose big to have high draft picks. Until that happens, enjoy 9-8/10-7.

Let me get this straight. If the Steelers had a bunch of Pro Bowlers, would they be better? DUH.

Our coaching staff is flawed. Even with a franchise Qb like Mahomes or Allen, we’d likely get booted out of the playoffs in the first or second round. I think at least wed secure home field advantage. See Steelers results from 2010-2018.

To be fair, put *any* QB behind that line, with 2 stud receivers and a world-breaking RB - and I'm guessing they'll win.

Yeah they brought in Tanner McKee after Pickett got hurt and he threw 2 TD's.

LOL! To review, this is the annual Mike Dumblin "EXCUSE FOR NOT WINNING" list that his groupies use, Nole! You have to admit, it's a comprehensive list! It's NEVER his fault, either. Here is the list:

    Dumblin doesn't win Championships because....

    --- it's poor talent
    --- it's the OC
    --- it's the DC
    --- it's Cowher's fault
    --- it's Ben's fault
    --- it's the owner's fault
    --- it's the City of Pittsburgh's fault
    --- it's the weather
--- it's not enough fan support
    --- it's the tough schedule
--- it's because of Bill Billichump
    --- it's the refs fault
--- it's because of poor stadium maintenance
--- it's because of all the ego's he has to deal with
    --- it's the GM's fault
--- it's because we put pressure on him
--- it's because of poor front office support
--- it's because of playing premium qb talent in the playoffs
--- it's because of not enough Pro Bowlers
--- it's because he's tired from studying film all the time

Anything else I should add?

    no - do not agree.

    Tomlin cannot be elite.

We were in the discussion with Ben, as a HOF and Franchise QB, but woefully underachieved for years.

    Please, Fans, understand this

    Rooney is clueless.

Mahomes has had about seven productive years. Based on that I think we would have won at least two Super Bowls during his career if we drafted him.

    So yes, similar.

Though very unlikely, it`s not impossible to win a Super Bowl with a capable QB who has an above average year. Quite rare and even harder now. Lots of things have to fall into pace.

FYI: Steve Young was elite yet had to sit and wait for Montana to get out of his way. Hard to imagine that ever happening again.
