I know this sounds stupid, but can a 3-3-5 work in the nfl. Let troy take farrior's place and roam around since he sucks in coverage. Play with 3 lineman and 3 linebackers and five dbs including troy. Its just a thought. anyone think it could work

I think when opposing offenses go to 2 WR sets that would make us susceptible to the run. But I think the Steelers do something like what you are describing when opposing offenses go to 4-or-5-wide... Can anyone verify this?

I believe the 3-3-5 is the nickle defense, or at least our version of it.

I honestly don't think this would work. Where is your pass rush going to come from? those three dlinemen can't be Hood, Keisel and Heyward. They can't rush the passer.

who are your three line backers? Harrison, timmons and Woodley? Only timmons have coverage ability.

You could go with 2-4-5 which we already play. Heyward and Hood....Woodley and Harrison on the outside......Timmons/Farrior or someone else who can cover and 5 DBs. Could just leave timmons as the only inside backer and bring another safety line up next to him who can take on some blockers.

But the problem we will have and had all season is no pass rush from out Dlinemen. Someone has to teach them how to pass rush.

It would work with 3 pass-rushing DT's on the line and at least one thumper at LB. The other 7 defenders would have to be athletic freaks and/or very assignment-savvy.

    That's what I was thinking! Maybe a 6'5" 240# Troy at OLB, a 6' 2" 200# Troy at CB, etc... They've perfected cloning, right?
