Ben had a fractured thumb on his throwing hand in 2005 too... the year he won his first Superbowl.

I'm more worried about his making the injury worse if he whacks it off a helmet or something than it affecting his performance. If the Steelers are letting him practice and play, he's fine.

if we get ahead by a couple of scores will Tomlin let him rest or keep him in the game?

If history is any predictor - he'll keep him in - but he shouldn't. However, the way this season has gone, what are the chances we get ahead by a couple of scores late? It seems like every team is in every game with us - especially on the road.

Even if we get ahead by a couple of scores, we still end up fighting for a win in the fourth quarter. I doubt they'll sit Ben even if that's the case.

He had a running game he could rely on when he hurt his
thumb last time. That is not the case this year. It a shame we could be so much
more, if Ba and Ben understood the importance of a running game!

That, and Ben doesn't want to come out. Yes, that should be Tomlin's decision. But Tomlin has a professional respect for Ben. While many other QB's in the league wear a dress on gameday, Ben fits right in with the hardworking fanbase of the Greatest Team in the NFL. :herewego:

I am not sure how similar Ben's injury is to Matt Stafford, but Stafford was wearing gloves today and he looked terrible (often) throwing during today's game. I remember did well with gloves in 2005, and hope that he does so now as well.

The Steelers have the 1 for the thumb ring +1, but Ben doesn't. Ben only has 2.

I think we will be seeing more running plays for a while until the thumb heals a bit which might not bad thing.

Actually, the opposite could be true. I've read that the center-quarterback exchange exacerbates the injury more than throwing the ball. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ben throwing from shotgun formation a lot of the time.

That'd be cool. We go five wide under center too often.

I think this is true - more painful to take a snap under center with a thumb injury. So I'd expect more pistol or shotgun. Not that we would run a pistol but expect to see BR taking snaps from there. That unfortunately probably means we'll see the sickening delayed draw to mini-memo a few times tonight. It could be a good thing if BR looks for the short passes to Miller and outlets to RM / Red.
