Wonder what's going on with Worlids contract talks? I figured they would have worked out a long term deal by now? With him signing the Transition tag so quickly and not fielding offers from other teams I thought they had a long tem contract in the works. It seems we could have used the cap space to help with signing a FA? What's the holdup?

Dunno… I kind of expected something by now as well. Maybe they're just very busy getting through the initial FA signing period. Once we get the cap relief that will likely be there with his deal, and especially on June 1 wen Woodley's dollars come off the books, I'd like to the front office get extensions done with Heyward and Allen.

That's a good point and makes sense.

There's no need for Worilds to rush into signing a contract, he holds all of the cards.

Hey we agree on something. Players hate 1 year deals.

Maybe for for the moment, but he needs to think about possible injury when the OTA's start up?

If he's injured or has a terrible season you don't think that will affect his contract next season if he sticks with the one year deal with the Steelers?

Yeah let's say we make the playoffs and he tears and ACL in the game no team will touch him next year. He does hold the cards as in screw it I will take the risk but most guys don't want to take that risk.

You said OTAs. I doubt he's in a hurry to sign right now because of fear of being injured in non-contact OTAs 2 months from now.

I wonder if the Steelers are pushing hard right now since they could use the cap space?

It will get done I'm sure Worilds wants that big signing bonus that comes with a contract extension.

When you look at the risk reward in Worilds 1 year guaranteed 9.7 million contract, I think almost 10 million dollars makes the reward far outweigh the risk, hell, 10 million is enough to retire on for life, and the average upper middle class worker doesn't make close to that in a lifetime of work including retirement...

Realistically how much of the $10 million does he really get? After taxes and the agents take I bet it's less than half. Now that's still a lot of money, but probably not enough for the lifestyles some of these guys lead?

Agents can only receive 3%, so his agent will get about 260 K, and he wont pay 50% of it in taxes as you indicate, he doesn't get taxed as though he won the lottery he will get taxed at the same rate as other high income people who have all the tax shelters available to cut their liability... The National Football League states that an agent can't receive more than 3 percent of player salaries. The National Basketball Association places the limit at 3 percent too.

Don't they have to pay income tax to each state they play a game in?

True, but it's a 1 day tax, depending if they they practice there for a couple of days it would be prorated at 3 days. Ray Lewis paid the city of pittburgh 18 K in taxes based on the 1 game a year he played there during his 17 year career in cluding some post season games, hardly a big hit for him over his 17 year career...

I seriously doubt he will play out the season on a 1 year deal. They'll get something done.
