If you're going to go there, how is Obi-Wan able to leap out of a pit and beat Darth Maul, who is just standing there waiting for him, but having the high ground is the deciding factor against Anakin just two movies later?

And how did Count Dooku own Obi Wan...the greatest Jedi, twice?:facepalm:

Agree...Qui Gon dying was devastating. Beginning of the end for the Old Republic and Jedi!

Meh. Mace Windu could have easily beaten any of them.

    Very good question.
Best I can come up with is Maul underestimated Obi- Wan after just beating His Master (Qui- Gon), and Obi- Wan would not underestimate Anakin.

This. Element of surprise, Maul thought he had him beaten. Also, Obi just had to go up and over Maul whereas Anikin had to go up and forward a great distance. Plus Obi was completely ready for it and told him not to try.

I read somewhere that Maul was dealing with a partially torn rotator cuff that he had aggravated when fighting Qui Gon, but nobody realized it was a real injury because Bellechick/Palpatine had always put Maul on the injury lists as “questionable” for several straight years.

No way I'm taking anyone over Yoda. For one, he had the "he's so small you can't even see him behind his linemen" running back advantage in a fight. And when you add that small frame to the way he could zip through the air, it was like trying to knock a Quidditch golden snitch down with your lightsaber.

It also helped that Ray Park played Darth Maul. Park is a martial artist, stunt man, and fight choreographer. Park is the reason The Phantom Menace has the best lightsaber battles of any of the movies.

Even for someone like me for whom that movie was very meh overall, you're right, those fights were top notch, and a lot of fun.

Not any more. He survived being bisected and falling down into a pit. His story continued in the animated series and a brief appearance in Solo, but they killed him off later.

It was in the animated series Star Wars: Rebels. I didn't watch the show, but I heard this happened and found the clip on YouTube.
