Was an absolute game changer. Good person too. Future stop in Canton, and I'm pretty sure the artist will have his work cut out for him for his bust.

Totally agree. One of my favorite players of all time. And probably the most humble considering his on-field abilities. Even when his skills started diminishing, it was hard not to appreciate his motor.

Best safety in NFL history? Lol might want to take those B&G glasses off because Lott and Reed were still better.

Disagree. Lott didn't have the defense revolve around him like Polamalu. Reed was the benefactor of being on a team with Ray Lewis.

Polamalu would single handedly take over games.

Reed was way better in coverage than Troy.

Perhaps in that one facet alone. But not even close to TP in the overall package that he brought to the defense. With Reed, the opp QB just knew not to throw in his area of the field. With Troy - you didn't know what area of the field that was.

I'm sorry the "Where's Troy?" So much of that was media hype than on field. To me a great safety has to be solid in coverage. Troy was more of a hybrid player.

Reed had a special knack for being at the right place at the right time, reading QBs, and jumping routes. He did that very good. Many of his picks came from playing the deep safety position.

Troy was all over the place. The entire defense was designed around freeing him up to make plays where ever needed.

That's a pretty important facet for a safety.

I think EdReed was right up there with him. You can't compare the two because they played the position differently, but both were game changers.

Just imagine if you had both players on the same team. Troy causing chaos at the line of scrimmage and Reed picking balls off in the back field.

Where is Troy? Does anyone know the whole story about why he wants no part of the Org. anymore? It seems to me his apparent beef with the team is flying under the radar. He's a all time great and yet he's nowhere to be found.

Troy is one of my favorite players ever and Reed isn't on the list. But Reed didn't just sit there and grab the odd ball. He baited QB's into throwing the ball to where he could go get it. He was very sneaky about it, which is not a skill most have.

He was also a good tackler, had his share of sacks and forced fumbles.

They didn't even really play the same position. It's like comparing a LB to a DE, you just can't. I think both are among the greatest safeties in league history.

Baltimore almost had that luxury back in 2003. Had Pittsburgh not traded up to get him, I shutter to ponder if Pittsburgh would be able to surmount. For that matter, I wonder if Jerome Bettis would have been able to retire a Super Bowl Champion.

Troy is now Head of Player Relations for the Alliance of American Football. It is a new league that will kickoff come February 9 of this year. Hines Ward is one of his advisers.

Regarding as to why Troy did not return for Alumni week, I can only think one reason. Troy has never been a fan of the spolight whatsoever. For that matter, here is his quote from the America's Game: 2008 Pittsburgh Steelers:

"I love life. I enjoy life. I don't enjoy Foobtall but, football is a part of life. In that way, I do love Foobtall. Football is not who we are. Football is what we do."

Greatest Strong Safety of All Time. Period. Anyone who is a close second is not even a close second. We will have great safeties as many of us see in Derwin James, Harrison Smith and Jamal Adams. None of them will ever be like Troy.

He was a once in a generation type player. Not happening ever again. NFL is way too flag happy anyways.

I agree. I watched the 12 minute video and saw some hits that would be flagged today. But man I miss that defense and the fire that they all had!
