No. Terrible fit. Tomlin's defense is predicated on sitting back in soft zones in cover 2 and watching your ILB get eaten up by pass catching TE and slot receivers.

Martindale is way too aggressive. Terrible fit.

If we brought in a DC to have control of the defense (won't happen) I'd prefer someone else than Martindale: Bowles, Zimmer, Frazier etc.

I don't think we have the corners to run Martindale's defense. They had Smith and Humphrey playing at a high level until this year and his defense fell apart as soon as he didn't have man corners to run his cover 1 blitzes without getting exposed.

Think how badly Ike Taylor burned us relying on him in the playoffs vs AZ, DEN etc. Cover 1 creates 1 on 1 matchups good offenses would exploit against us.

He can't play football but he is great with a deck of cards and I think he may be deceased.

You are going to have to be old to get this.

    Yes, Anyone over Teryl Austin.

This is a guy that didn't last 1 year with the Bengals. And has done nothing at his current position of DB coach with the Steelers.

Anyone remember this headline after he was fired in Cincinnati? For the season, Austin's defense held just one opponent to fewer than 20 points.

They also were the first team in history to give up 500 yds in three straight games.
On the other hand, when he first took over the Detroit Lions defense, they finished second in the league in yds allowed and pts given up.
