The trade stated commanders only get the late round 6th if Jackson played a set number of games. Due to him on IR, that is now doubtful.

Also commanders take on 9 million in dead money the remainder of this year. As well 10.6 in dead money next year.

So did we just get this guy for free? What do we have to pay him? Also do we still get the 7th from commanders?

Now I've got questions. Over the cap has Washington taking on 9 million in dead money for WJIII in 2023. But it has Pittsburgh taking on his full salary for 2023 ($12.5 million with bonuses).
Is he actually getting $21.5 million next year, or did OTC make a mistake, and his roster hit for next year only $3.5 million for us?

    That's exactly what I'm wondering.

Even if we got this guy for 10 next year is a deal. But if it's for 3.5 we freaking robed the commanders.

It's only a good deal if in so he is not going to have lingering back issues.

Washington is taking a $9m dead money hit on a signing bonus they’ve already paid to him when he signed his deal initially. That is locked in on their cap sheet regardless of what happens with Jackson and the steelers.

With his current deal he is due to make 12.75m in 2023. None of it is guaranteed, not one cent. The Steelers will either cut him loose and save all of that or tell him he can stay but he has to take a substantial pay cut. There is no way they are paying him 12.75m with his injury record and spotty play during his career to date. The team has all the leverage here, I expect he will be back at a much lower deal if he can stay healthy. If there is any doubt about his ability to stay on the field they’ll cut him.

Yep. And the draft picks are both conditional. So if his snap total cancels the Steelers' sixth, it cancels the Commanders' seventh.

Correct they can cut him and walk away clean. $9.2 million in Salary and a $3.25 million roster bonus if he is still on the team like the 3rd business day of the 2023 season. They owe him nothing if they cut him before the season.

But the big question is, 4 games left; will they be pulling him off the IR to kick the tires to find out what this 30-year-old still has left? He was eligible to come off the IR list last week with Boswell.

2 Weeks left to go in the season and still no sightings for this CB. Are the Steelers that set at the 2023 CB position they don't want to take a look at a 1st round player already on their roster and signed for 2023?

Not sure when the 21-day windows closes so, he may not even be able to comeback if that time has expired.

Here we go again with having a starting CB on the roster and forgetting all about him. Letting Steven Nelson go without even a phone call to see if he wanted to rework his contract so he could comeback proved costly for the Steelers; at least that is what Steven told Pittsburgh reporters after he was shocked to learn that the Steelers had already released him without ever contacting him.

Jackson wasn't going to start for them even if he was activated, it's looking like a bad trade let him walk in the offseason.

I think they can get creative, the roster bonus likely stays in place and lower base salary with incentives in place. He is not likely to get anything guaranteed on the market, work it right and both sides can win.

Thats what he said. It was also rumored he wanted more..so believe what you want. Lasted a year with the Eagles and now with the Texans..so it seems like his options were limited.

Jackson sucked with the Commanders this season, he can't even get on the field with the Steelers because of injury.

This. Also let’s remember Jackson was a poor scheme fit for Washington , he’s a man-to-man CB AND Also, our DC was his DC while they were both in Cincinnati , Sooo, I’m sure the Steelers know him better than us and have a future plan for him.

They’ll probably rest him and let him heal completely , restructure his contract and get him in camp ready to go. probably on a 1year prove it deal or an extension that’s incentive laden. As a rotation player or passing down specialist I can a spot for him.

    1. Jackson did not suck. He simply didn't want to play with them.
    2. With him not playing, the commanders do not get a draft pick from us.
    3. Also commanders take on a 9 million hit.
... I'm unsure how many games it is that he can play and we don't take those hits. But I think steelers are seeing if we are getting in the playoffs or not. If not, then I expect to see him.

It's simple strategy for us. Our CB position is horrible with Next year sutton as a free agent. Don't get me wrong I like maulet, but we are very weak at that position.

    The FA options....
    - sutton 8 million
    - Jamal dean (Tampa) 9 million
    - Marcus peters ravens 10 million
    - jonathan Jones 13 million
    - Patrick Peterson will more than likely want to stay a viking for 6 million.

Right now we have 17 million and need to keep 5-7 million for rookies and spare. Bringing us to 10. That means we only get to sign one, which will probably be Sutton.
Hopefully steelers will cut trubisky. Where we can get 8 million. But they'll want to sign a veteran QB and then draft another QB in the mid to late rounds. So regardless that money will be tied up.
Myles jack could save us 8 million. However with Bush gone, that's now a weak area. But if they cut him, as well cutbwitherspoon, then I could see them going after someone like Jamal Dean. However that's now 2 holes at LB.

A lot of hard decisions are going to be made..... so yeah this is a great trade. He'll play next year.

Jackson with Bengals was about a top ten CB. Due to man coverage. His weakness was zone. And guess what commanders did to him, they put him in zone. They thought they could get this guy into another level, that was not there. And ignored that man to man is hard to find. Hence why he likely wanted out.

Other than his salary, Steelers didn’t really give up anything via trade. And it’s possible Jessica still proved to be a good move by the Steelers.

The best player is the available player. I would be very leery of him going forward.
Witherspoon, Maulet, Killebrew, Karl Joseph, Etc Our CB and safety depth needs
upgraded. As we all seen, they can't cover.

It's to early to really tell how much they will have. When the new year starts and the cap is set, then the restructures and cuts. I don't see a big splash player though..if they can keep Sutton and find a legit D and or OT I'd be eststatic..but finding them on 2nd tier is nearly impossible.

I just don't see them paying his $3.5 million roster bonus in March to a 30+ CB they have never seen in a Steeler uniform with the hope of him restructuring his salary demands.

Not a clue why they didn't get him on the field to find out what they may or may not have. Funny this is a guy you could wonder if the Steelers ever gave a physical as they signed him and then IR'd him 10 days later; never to be seen again.

Every offseason there are always plenty of 30+ quality CBs available on the market wanting to sign 4 & 5 year deals.

And why would they keep Jackson in 2023, he hasn't shown anything since he joined the team, there were reports Jackson wasn't good this season with Washington.
