does anyone think the steelers are the only team willing to pay TJ? it's not about just the money, he'll get the money. there is nothing that say's he'll get the money here though. if the chance arises to get paid and get a ring, what is going to keep him here? mason rudolph? or the way he's being treated? a 6th round pick? a washed up aaron rodgers that has no dedication to the team? a 2026 rookie QB that may or may not be good enough down the road? mike tomlin? i don't see any of those things as motivator's if you are going to get paid anyway.

All those things you mention sound more like reasons to get the heck out of here.

Rickey Jackson and Sam Mills already get that accolade.

Admittedly Jackson did it once he left the Saints.

It was a shame that the Dome Patrol never won a playoff game. They had one of the great linebacking corps in NFL history, but the offense just wasn't good enough.

Miles Garrett stayed in Cleveland.... so your point is kinda moot. And yeah, I get it.... Browns have a better offensive-minded HC and have won a playoff game more recently, but still, Garrett decided to take the money in Cleveland.

don't know if they can afford to pay TJ what he wants.so what are the options--suck it up and pay the outrageous salary or trade him:scratch::confused1::confused1::confused1::confused1:

They can afford it, but it it wise to award an outrageous contract to a 30-year-old edge rusher coming off a season in which he disappeared over the final five or six games due to injuries?

why is it a moot point? just because garrett did it doesn't mean TJ will. TJ will get the money plus possibly a ring elsewhere. garrett also hit our QB in the head with a helmet. just because myles did it doesn't mean TJ has to follow suite.

Fair question. Generally, as a player's age increases, their production efficiency (performance to APY) decreases. In the instance of an NFL player seeking a third contract, a team is essentially paying for the player's prime-year production at a time when they're entering the declining phase of their career.

Peak age for an EDGE is typically considered to be between 25-29. There are analytics out there that break down things like WAR as a function of age by position, but WAR in football is still a relatively unrefined statistic in the NFL, and you also have to sift through the slog of reports geared solely for fantasy football interests that don't always line up with real-world football value.

But generally speaking, the EDGE is particularly risky because it's currently one of the highest valued positions, but also one of the most physically demanding. A little bit of loss athletically can go a long way.

So wait.....the two examples of actually taking less are Brady , and Mahomes, and Yet they say it doesn't work????
    I'm super confused.
Brady = 13 AFC Championships, 10 SBs, and 7 SB wins.
Mahomes = 7 AFC Championships, 5 SBs, and 3 SB wins.
    So......
I'm not understanding either the report , or how it doesn't help

It’s not entirely true anyway because what he is explaining is kicking the can down the road which is how the Steelers operate an until recently why they were always right up against the cap. What changed? Bens contract is gone.

Mr Brandt sounds like he has an agenda.

That's the only way I can explain what was written, or I wasn't fully understanding what was written, one , or the other.

This could drag on a while if it gets done at all.

Really shortsighted of the Steelers to take so long to address his contract.

Why are you dragging Mahomes into this.

He signed a league high 10 year $450 million contract in 2020. All he is doing right now is playing out his contract. I don't think Mahomes gave the Chiefs any discount when he signed for half a Billion dollars.

Restructuring a contract to move money around is not the same as taking a pay cut.

Pretty much agree. If they want him on board, they can afford the amount. There's no franchise QB in sight, and plenty of moves a club can make with a contract to make it cap friendly. Plus Cam's contract falls away after next year; Minkah will either be cut or extended to a more cap-friendly amount (i.e., not be a $26M hit in 2026); and so on.

What they don't need is another hold-in where he isn't participating in offseason camps. Too often it's a recipe for injury, and either way you want the team chemistry.

OMFG. Some of You are so freaking ready to argue that you can't be bothered with reading the whole comment, and what it was commented on.
So....I really, really, really, really wish some of You people would read the comments that some of these quotes, and comments come from before you type.
Answer because it was in the original freak comment, and story that I commented on. Geez
Now say you're sorry for being an a$$.
    Edit today....
So @Brice@Brice was quick to run the mouth, but not quite as quick to apologize .
I personally don't mind a person being argumentative, but when Your in the wrong, just admit it....it's part of being a man.

The Steelers are going to sign Watt. It will be a contract that has some combination of years, signing bonus or guaranteed money that can be argued to exceed what Garett got. It will be a bad deal for the team. But not so bad that they can’t swallow it, while they pay QBs peanuts over the next few yrs. Watt will be the one-helmet guy, that fans crave. But one whose career accomplishment is that he NEVER played for a losing team.
    Huzzah!!

The defense is not playoff worthy. They won't pay him what he thinks he's worth.

The Brady example is misleading because the Patriots cheated (not surprisingly). Patriots got around the salary cap with Brady by paying a Fitness company, TB12, tens of millions to get Brady in shape for the season. And oh by the way, the Fitness company was owned by Tom Brady, so it looked like Brady was giving a home town discount when he was actually paid top dollar.

Then there is a simple solution for Watt. Do a Myles Garrett and publicly request a trade.

Plus Brady's wife was raking in over 50 million a year as a super model. Money was the least of his concerns.

He’s right. Steelers screwed up by waiting. Maybe they should wait a little longer for Parsons to sign an even bigger deal.

I was shocked when Denver traded Von Miller to the Rams during the middle of the season. People in Denver hated the trade and were really upset at Denver for trading away one of their best Defensive players that had been on the team for the past 10 years.

If Watt does not get a new contract before the season, and the Steelers start off like 2-6; I could see the Steelers unloading Watt at the trade deadline to a contender.
