Will James Conner’s running style cause him to be injury prone?

Sort of damned if you do, damned if you don't. Being a running back is a crap shoot in the NFL. Some have short career's and a few have longer ones. Bettis had a nice career and he played smash mouth a lot of the time.

I think Conner can be great for the Steelers but that injury bug is the nastiest bug in the world. I was amazed Troy P. didn't miss huge chunks of seasons the way he flew all over the place.

Troy DID miss a lot of time. Only played 6 full seasons out of 12. 158 out of 192 possible games. Almost 20% of his career was lost to injury.

JC doesn't have a unique running style that lends itself to injury. He's just not the most durable, unfortunately.

Troy was injured most of the time BECAUSE OF his playing style. JC is not.

Beg to disagree. Conner does have a running style that I would call 'take no prisoners' style. He lifts his legs, flips depending how he is hit, uses his thighs to bounce off tacklers, and sometimes comes down awkward.

He is injury prone by how he does not protect himself with body control. You can run over someone, but keep balance, and protecting yourself. Conner doesn't do that. I think we have seen him land funny or kick his legs out, twist his upper body, just to keep moving.

That is not the way to last long in this league. And so far, he is proving to not be game in game out, injury proof.

He definitely a hard runner. Not much flexibility to him and a bit undersized for being the brawler he is.

Bigger holes and the big guys don’t get to hit you.

I got hit by a big guy once. And it was related to a big hole. He seemed to think it belonged to him. I seemed to think that since a lot had ran through it, it was the thing to do.

it seems to me that RBs are fairly replaceable and ultimately all that matters these days is your O-line because they're the ones either opening holes big enough for anyone to run through or not...

JC needs to run lower lower his pads so
    he doesn't take big hits.

All RB's take a lot of hits. Some guys are just injury prone. It's looking like Connor is very injury prone. Tomlin can't feed him 20+ times per game, Connor just can't take it. Now I understand that some of our other RB's are injured too, so that's a bit of a problem.

He did slide once last night. Some players are just more prone to injuries.

    This.

He does not run with a great deal of body lean, takes a lot of glancing hits.
