When I saw this I thought it was a real early game day thread.

There is some value in losing big, then facing the same opponent again. They learned next to nothing about us because we played so bad, but we SHOULD HAVE learned something about what does not work at least.

Not expecting anything in this game as we are overmatched. Would be pleasantly surprised if it was a competitive game.

I took a look at the Chiefs message board and their fans are way overconfident. Some were saying that the Chiefs ended up getting a bye anyway with a game against the Steelers.
Some were saying that they should rest Mahomes and other key starters and let them get extra rest for the divisional round.

It’s going to be a close game. Steelers pull this one out, no doubt. There will NOT be a KC blowout this time around.

Facts; we are off to Tennessee, I’m overlooking this game. 3 Wins and we are in the Super Bowl that easy.

    kC WIN
    TEN WIN
    BUF WIN

    We got this!! Easy

    Turnovers. That's the key.

Contain Kelce. Tomlin's defenses have been exposed over the middle by Fitzgerald in 09, Demaryius in 12 (RIP), Chris Hogan in 2017. If we get gashed like that yet again we will lose. If Kelce goes for 150 with 2 TD good luck.

Bush seems to be regaining some athleticism but he couldn't cover Andrews so he can't cover Kelce.

Going to need Edmunds to step up and Tomlin to play an aggressive style with man coverage with Minkah high and Edmunds on Kelce. I know Edmunds isn't great and we as fans are often down on him but he did a good job against Andrews and is pretty often lined up in man in the slot.

don't squander the opportunity Steelers. Jax jagoffs helped us. Now beat KC and be one step closer. Raiders are afraid of KC. Lets show Raiders why they should be sorry they didn't tie. 7 for #7

I went back and looked at how top TE did against the Steelers immediately before Tomlin's arrival to see how much it was just Lebeau's defense having a hole in the middle.

    2004:

    Jason Witten 5/6 39 yd
    Chris Cooley 7/10 31 yd 1 TD

    2005:

Antonio Gates 5 rec 11 tgts 61 yd 1 TD
    Todd Heap 5/7 38 yds 4/7 29 yds
    Jerramy Stevens 3/8 25 yd 1 TD

    2006:

    Antonio Gates 3/7 55 yd 1 TD
    Tony Gonzalez 3/7 15 yd

    2009:

    Antonio Gates 9/12 124 yd 2 TD

    2010:

    Gronk 5/5 72 yd 3 TD

    2011:

    Gronk 7/9 94 yd

    2013:

    Gronk 9/10 143 yd 1 TD

    2015:

    Antonio Gates 9/11 92 yd 2 TD
    Gronk 5/8 94 yd 3 TD

    Etc.

The last time Kelce had 7/10 109 yd 2 TD but before that the Steelers really held him in check. Will Tomlin forget to defend the blades of grass in the MOF? Or will Kelce have one more of several underwhelming performances against the Steelers?

I think this is a huge part of the match up.

If anyone can teach me why Lebeau was so good against top TE under Cowher with Foote and Farrior as ILB but often bad against TE under Tomlin with Timmons I'd appreciate it.

They must allow them to beat themselves. (Not to be confused with beating off defenders). Like Tenn, Browns and Rats all did. :steelflag:

I agree I don’t think it does the Chiefs any favors having to play the Steelers just 3 weeks removed from embarrassing them. Remember in the 2005 Super Bowl run in the Bettis fumble game that the Steelers got blown out by Colts on a Monday night in Indy then came back there in the playoffs and took it to them and obviously won the playoff game in Indy. So yea anything is possible and anything can happen and after yesterday I don’t rule anything out.

Right...he does nothing to try and inform us who may have been covering those TEs. It kinda makes a difference.

One hope would be over confidence, due to the fact the beat us 36-10.

But, end of the day. We need the Steelers offense to show up.

Biggest key might keeping them to under 24 points.

Steelers 8-0-1 in allowing less than 24 points.

I just don't see how they can win this game. They don't match up well with KC at all. The only chance I think they have is to keep the KC offense off the field.

They need to try every trick they have in the offensive playbook.

Yep I like how the Steelers are the underdog. It'll get the mindset out of thinking, "this is an easy win".

That's where you'll lose the game thinking like that.

You have to build on what you know about yourself. For instance we know the o line has problems. So they need to be drilled with stop making penalties. Learn to move better so it give big Ben just a 1/2 second more time to throw.

We know our defense is great as usual. So keep letting them play.

If you build what you know about yourself, you'll smack another team. Specially when they are over confident.

    How do the Steelers win?
The Chiefs sign AB, he sneaks a Covid infected hooker into his hotel room the night before the game. Omicron ravages their locker room and they all have to sit out. Even then the Steelers win by 1, 10-9 on a last second field goal.
