The steelers were 2-6 at that point in 2022 and Claypool had only 1 year left in his contract after the 2022 season....And when a team offer you a second round draft pick for a player who is worst and worst and you don't want to keep him in the long run, this is the thing to do even if what happen with Watt and Fitzpatrick would not happen!

Of course, what happen after this trade was the best case scenario for the steelers since they had the first pick in day 2 because Chicago did not win a single game after that in 2022!...Khan did not expect that. And Fields was a better QB in 2023 the moment Claypool was gone

Because Claypool was more concerned about building his brand than playing football .

The Steelers have done a nice job over the years of drafting WRs, but have also moved on from them as appropriate.

In hindsight, it was good they traded Claypool, for whatever the reason, as they ended up with a 2nd that turned into JPJ.

Plus the Steelers apparently cured themselves of a cancer.

Because all football players have two curves: the Pain In The Ass Curve and the Production Curve. The PITAC generally trends upward over time. The PC generally trends downward. When a player is more of a pain in the ass than his production warrants, i.e., his PITAC crosses his PC, he is cut or traded. Or, as often in the case of the Ravens, arrested.

I think we were all shocked when Chase was traded. It's not every day a top 3 NFL reciever gets traded.

Chase was traded to Chicago to sabotage Fields, so he'd get traded to Pittsburgh for nothing.

Chase Claypool was the anti-Hines Ward. Had the frame, freakish athletic ability... but no heart and no mind to play WR in the NFL.

Never seen a player implode the way Claypool did after his first season. Carson Wentz was pretty bad... but not as bad as Chase.

Fell in love with him after the Eagle game but it didn't last long.

The trade was a no brainer. He was never worth what they got for him, too good to turn down.

Didn’t hear about any issues with teammates but not surprising, he is a knucklehead.

Just looked at his stats and he had nearly 900 yards in both of his first two seasons. He is still young and surely too talented to be out of the league, but if he isn’t willing to work that’s where it’s headed.

Im not surprised. I dont think his me first attitude was appreciated, certainly not by team guys like Watt and Minkah.

His signaling first down with the clock winding down probably didnt go over well either especially how he reacted by the lineman (forget who that was) that grabbed the football from him to get it back to the line.

Claypool was a selfish childish player that doesn’t put in the work. Trading him was a no brainer especially for the return they got.

He got way to much praise his first season and played quite well. Looked promising. Then his head blew up. his ego took over with all the praise and like you said he didn't continue to put in the work and really took a major spiral.

He did receive an MVP for as many times he fell on his @ss :hehehe:

Khan fleeced the Bears but I think they thought they could turn the kid around. Didn't happen.

He is not missed as far as i'm concerned.

I don't think Claypool worked to get better, every offseason you see Diontae working on his route running and foot work, that success in his rookie season went to his head.

I think one of my favorite sayings applies here -

Hard work beats athletic talent when athletic talent doesn’t work hard.

could be I guess. But it would seem to me that the STeelers traded him at just the right time. Add what you posted to it and it's a no brainer. And now to bed

    An unproductive *******.

What ever became of the assault charges against him? I seem to remember he was accused of kicking someone in the head while they were on the ground.
