In the past our special teams coverage has allowed some big returns against us. They're coverage is better this year but I still don't like it when teams return the kicks and punts against us. It really seems like our kickoffs and punts are purposely short and the other teams are getting slightly better field position because of it.

Is it Boswell and Berry or is the team purposely kicking and punting short?

I believe except for one punt today Berry was finally kicking very good.
As far as the Kickoffs depending on the situation they kick it short on purpose most of the time. If you can get it right at the goal line the returner is going to bring it out and the chance of him not making it to the 25 or a fumbling the ball are better than the chance of a great return.

The first kickoff by Boz today he slipped while kicking.

I had to re-read 3 times to make sure you were really asking this about punts. SMH. Further, Boswell's opening KO squib was because he slipped on his a$$ just as he kicked. Other short KO's often are for effect thinking the receiving team can be stopped short of the 25.

Edit: Jinx, I owe you a Coke Glenn.

It's not just today. Bos and Berry have been kicking it short and it has been giving opposing teams better field position.

Berry because he's maddeningly inconsistent. Boz has kicked short on occasion mostly because of strategy and maybe a couple that weren't hit right. Boz's kickoffs have been fine for the most part. It's Berry who has hurt us

    Berry’s punts today were 51, 48, 59, 63, 44, and 41 yards. (I guess his leg was getting tired.) Averaged 52 gross, 42 net.

Oh he definitely punted well today it's just the one short one did set up good field position for them. All in all it was a quality day for him...
